Are There Fake Perfumes on Facebook Marketplace

I was looking to buy Dior Sauvage EDP 100ml Myer/DJ shows $220 mark however FB market going for $100-$120.

When I asked about legitimacy been advised these duty free etc still doesn't add up. Is it just Myers/DJ overpriced or FB marketplace these are full of fake?

Any good ideas how get them better price?

And here’s me thinking of course there are fakes, I wonder roughly what percentage are real…

Fake perfumes can be found everywhere.

As they say, if the price is too good to be true, then it isn't.

      Only buy from reputable retailers.

Chemist Warehouse seems to offer the best prices

I'd be very sceptical of any being sold on the marketplace.

Seems there are fakes so you'd have a reasonable chance of picking up a fake on marketplace/eBay/guy in a trenchcoat in a back alley.

Many buyers still suss on even chemist warehouse … despite many reviews saying it’s authentic then this haha

Chemist warehouse seem mostly ok, though on one occasion I returned a Chanel purchased there.

Bought & opened it at the store to test in front of the employee. Sprayed the scent on a piece of paper and scent disappeared within a couple of minutes… No way would the original do this, so I returned it for a refund.

On other occasions 100ml Tom Ford scents purchased for ~$200 (RRP of ~$450 @ retailers like Myer or DJ) have been perfectly ok.

TBH, water based scents vanish pretty quick, oil based are much stronger and last much longer.
Also very old stock might have started to deteriorate.
        YMMV

Are the sellers random Joes, or do they appear to be like a business (ie. selling lots of perfumes)?

If it's a random who's only got a few single perfumes for sale, it could just be clearing out their collection. I've sold some before. If the seller's got 3 of the same perfume, and lots of diff perfumes, I wouldn't trust it, because it could be fakes or very old stock.

Is it just Myers/DJ over priced or FB marketplace these are full of fake?

All perfumes are overpriced. No sensible person buys stuff on FB at close to RRP, especially for perfumes where storage can impact the quality.

You can buy the same knock off perfumes boxed in Asia for $5-8 USD. You put it on and it doesn't last long before the scent despairs

You could have stopped here…. Most likely if its too cheap to be true then yeah.

i follow the rule that if it is too cheap, it's fake.

i rather pay a little more from an authorised seller to truly know i purchased real and authentic.

perfumes also last long, so if you calculate the cost per spray, it becomes very very cheap. initially it the price is expensive, but overtime it is very cheap.

its like my r.m.williams, it hurt with the initial payment, but then after you factor 5 years, 10 years, 20 years of use, it becomes very cheap.

I've been stung a couple of times with fake perfumes online from marketplace and Catch.

Sellers seem so genuine! But trust me, after mammoth investigating, they are fake as!

I only buy from reputable companies now like Myer's.

Save yourself some heartache and money by not buying marketplace 🤗
