Car Insurance - Other Party's Insurance Company Has Contacted Us

Hi everyone, I need some advice.

About 8 months ago, my wife was involved in a minor car accident. Both parties exchanged details at the scene, and we lodged a claim with our insurance company within 24 hours. However, we never received any response from our insurer or the other party's insurer, nor were we asked to pay any excess.

Now, 8 months later, the other party's insurance company has contacted us, claiming that our end of the claim wasn’t lodged properly. They mentioned that they could contact directly to verify whether the claim was correctly lodged and how they managed to approve the other party's claim.

I understand they want to ensure customer satisfaction, but it seems like they should be following up with the other party’s insurer to resolve this issue

Can anyone provide some insight into this situation?

Thanks

Since you lodged a claim previously, refer them to your insurance company.

    Option 2:

    • call your insurance company
    • confirm claim lodged correctly
    • call other insurance company back with details

we never received any response from our insurer

So, have I got this right … you made a claim with your insurer, never got any response, and didn't follow it up? I think that pretty much confirms the other insurer's statement that you didn't lodge the claim "properly", or perhaps at all? Which prevented the other insurer passing on the claim to your insurer.

You'd be asserting that it was the other driver's fault if it was, but you aren't. You're just saying "involved in a minor car accident". So I suspect what you are admitting was that it was your wife's fault, it only did minor damage to her car, but it it did more to the other car. And you just went off and got your car fixed at your own cost, hoping the whole thing would go away so you wouldn't have to pay any excess or have a claim on your record.

      This is 1000% what’s happened

Did you lodge a claim or just notify your insurance company?

If you did in fact lodge a claim, then send all correspondence from the other party to your insurance company to deal with

You will have received a "claim number" from your insurer at the time you made the claim. If you have that, then ring and ask them was it filed correctly/other insurance contact them about it.

If it was filed correctly and actioned on by your insurance, then return to the other insurance company and tell them to deal with your insurance company and stop calling you.

If it was NOT filed correctly or your insurer was awaiting more info from you, then give them what they need and get on with the process.

If you have no claim number, then you didnt make a claim… Now that the other insurance company has contacted you, contact your insurance and get them to get the ball rolling…

How do some people even live their life if they stress over stuff like this as if it were a rocket surgery question.

  • @Gabru007 so what happened in the end? Was the claim lodged properly?
