Aldi Torque Helmet Modular/Flip Up ECE2206 Rated

Couldn't really find any information on this so it could be useful to someone.

Aldi is selling motorcycle helmets and I decided to check if they were "safe" considering they're one of the cheapest helmets on the market.

ECE2205 is being phased out for ECE2206 in Europe and this helmet is certified to the new standard.

Granted it still feels like it cheap plastic and it will explode on impact.

If you feel that way , I think you've answered your question.

If it meets the standard, its safe enough. Can pretty much guarantee it doesnt provide anything more than it needs to.

    • Yeah, I tried to get this point across to some morons recently that tried to tell me that the Aldi "special buys" $79 helmet was just as safe as a top of the range Shoei or Arai because they are both made to meet ECE2206/AS1698… (they couldn't grasp the concept of "meets" vs. "exceeds")

They couldn't grasp the concept that AS1698 is the minimum bar it must pass to be able to be sold and used on the road. It would be the "bare minimum" in safety.

As a helmet to ride around town on my scooter or short commutes in urban environments, sure. As a weekend boy racer skid lid for twisty mountain roads… yeah, nah.

Higher priced helmets MIGHT provide more safety, but they WILL provide more comfortable, longer lasting padding, better ventilation, more durable finishes. The MAY also provide better aerodynamics, ability to replace parts, a crash damage replacement program where if your helmet is in a crash they take it back for testing and give you a dsicoint onna new one.

        • better aerodynamics

I’ve heard a few people complain about wind noise with the older Aldi helmets.

  • I'd consider this to use as a spare helmet for an occasional pillion passenger, but would you really want something like this for everyday use?
