Best Way to Redeem a Lot of TCN Gift Cards at JB Hi-Fi?

I recently hopped on the gift card train after seeing it for a long time, and now the time has come for me to upgrade my old iPhone 11 into the upcoming 16.

I managed to stack around $2000 worth of TCN Gift Cards throughout multiple Woolies branches with mixed denominations of the $30, $50 and $100, and now I am feeling a bit anxious of using it in-store as by reading the Gift Card FAQ page that it would be under staff discretion in JB-HiFI if they would allow it, and that I shouldn't mention that i'll be using a gift card and instead just a card, and I kinda don't want to do it now. So, i'm thinking about converting it all into digital JB-HiFi gift cards since (correct me if i'm wrong) the FAQ states that JB allows an unlimited amount of gift cards to be used in a single checkout, and just doing either a delivery for the phone or Click & Collect so all of the hassle would be on me and would not depend on a staff member's mood the day I purchase the phone.

Would that be the best option if I don't want to redeem it physically in-store or are there still other methods that i'm missing out on? If so, I would love to hear your suggestions please.

just go when its quiet and not 5 mins before closing…

Thank god for common sense on these forums

      • I do not lack common sense. I just tend to overthink things a lot and get anxious by uncertain things, that's just how I am, sadly. Hence the post.

I didn't say you did lack it, just some people would try an act like this during late night shopping or peak time on the weekend…

@spackbace: My bad, I got a bit defensive there. But will definitely keep these in mind.

Perhaps you are just haunted by uncertainty?

    • I have used around 40.

Yeah you'll be fine I reckon, I usually just mention I'm going to pay with a shit load of gift cards and they're fine with it

Just be polite as they are use to dealing with it. Usually you get put to the side counter and having them prescratched ready to go is a bonus.

They get this all the time. I've done it twice and had no problems at all. Enjoy your 2 meter long receipt.

The reason I wrote the FAQ in that way is to cover off the small chance that a staff member (or manager) is grumpy about the prospect of having to process $2000 from a stack of gift cards.

I would only start getting worried about a staff member refusing to do split payments if:

    • The staff member has no idea how to process split payments. (I would like to think a JB Hi-Fi staff member at a checkout knows how to do this…)

    • You are attempting to purchase a gift card.

    • You are going in at a busy time and you are not prepared (e.g. you have not removed gift cards from the packaging or revealed the PINs, you do not know the available balance on each gift card).

As others have already alluded to, if you are respectful and do not waste time when at the checkout, you should find that staff will be happy to help you process $2000 from a stack of gift cards. Not always though.

I will mention as an aside that I have never actually experienced a JB Hi-Fi staff member do this to me, but I have experienced an Officeworks staff member flat out refuse a split payment request one time (and I am not the only one).

Thank you for that. I appreciate your explanation and i'm more confident now to do it in-store!

Convert them to JB gift cards, then make a click and collect or delivery order and you can use multiple at the checkout. If you want something in store that isn't listed on the website or want to haggle/price match then you can ask for a deal and they will send you a link to the agreed price which you can then pay with JB gift cards.

This was what I was thinking too, I guess this is the best way if I don't want to swipe it in-store.

      • I did this recently, and it was great. No hassle to anyone but myself, then click and collect and a smile on everyone's faces.

        • Did you convert each and every TCN Gift into JB Digital Gift Cards first and then entered it on the click and collect order? Also, how many gift cards did you use?

  • I did 20 x cards 2 days ago. cashier had no problems putting them through. All had a laugh at my 5m long receipt and commented it was something that their parents would do and I was on my way $110 better off.

  • No one at retail is going to refuse a sale. The way the economy is going any sale is going to be done with a smile.

    • if you're buying an iPhone with no accessories, they won't be too happy

  • 1 at a time.

So just an update from me incase someone will be reading this thread in the future:

I ended up converting all of my TCN Gift Cards (specifically TCN Gift and TCN Him) into Digital JB-HiFi Gift Cards via the TCN portal. Received said Digital Gift Cards via email (with a link inside to get the card number and pin). Copy pasted each and every one to the windows sticky notes app.

Ended up using a total of 51 Digital JB Hi-Fi Gift Cards for my Click & Collect pre-order of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and upon checkout it said something like "gift cards have your order covered" or something along those lines, so no more card needed. The checkout page on the website was really long though because of the number of gift cards used.

Picked up my phone last September 26, no fuss at all. I would do the same in the future as it is more convenient for me as I really didn't like the idea of swiping a lot of gift cards at the counter.

I would suggest to do this method via a desktop/laptop/mac as it is much more easier than doing it via a mobile phone.
