Ideally timed post for the chilly 36°C Brisbane winter-weather today!

Imagine owning one of these and living in QLD

      • +9

I saw 3 guys ride the bus I was on yesterday wearing puffers. It was like 31°C in Brisbane. I felt hot even with just a shirt and shorts on lol

        • +1

          It’s winter man

      • +3

I got to finally use mine when I went down to Melbourne!

      • +4

Cheaper to heat your body than your whole house. Gets down to 12 degrees inside in winter. Imagine that

        • You sleep in it?

          • +4

@King Steuart: I work night shifts from home so pretty much

          • +1

@King Steuart: You blindly ignored Nuggets skiing avatar!!

          • +1

@King Steuart: I slept in my Aldi purchased Down Vest in Cooma in Autumn .
            [ below zero]

But I normally live on North Coast NSW.

Such ignorance… by someone from Melbourne!!

0.5C - Lowest Brisbane temp recorded August 1, 1994 - only slightly warmer than Melbourne's coldest -2.8C over a hundred years ago!!

Just West of Brisbane gets down to freezing each Winter.

That's certainly cold enough for a down jacket in Qld!!

        You realise people do travel?😒

Live in Qld - frequently travel to cold places like 2500+m in Japanese Alps🏔️

Have the predecessor to the Halo. Bought from Macpac for $99 over 15 years ago. Still keeps me very warm on travels. Love it!

Recently, MacPac manager got excited about my jacket… saying mine is better than their Halo (higher loft, more down). Couldn't believe how old it is - looks like new😀 Worth caring for.

      • +2

Queensland is not just on the beach, when in mountain areas or in the outback can easily get harsh frosts.

        • +1

Have worn thermal underwear (designed for cold mountain hiking) in Cairns on cold nights.
On the Tablelands it gets much cooler. Nice being around a roaring fire - way up North.

          • +1

@INFIDEL: I have been in/around the Tablelands on and off for the last month,

and some nights/early mornings it's been colder than Melbourne.

Not the nice days up here though this time of the year lol.

            • +1

@ozhunter68: Hope you enjoyed it. Nice area.

33C near perfect day in Brissie🌞 With (free) crab meal & nice beers😊
              Time to put jackets away.

              • @INFIDEL: Yeah thanks, still up here but getting hot as well as down SEQ so slowly start heading South. Sounds like you are having good times down Brissy…way to go.

      • Imagine being so ignorant to think it's only hot in QLD

Looks to be the code only works on clearance items?

Halo Hooded Puffer Jacket now $90.30

    That's a new low !

  • Bought just a week ago :/

    • +1

      Refund and repurchase?

  • I want a north face

    • +3

Look towards Brisbane and you'll have a north face. Just don't think to come here, stay were you are. We've got enough southern state people coming here to live, it's like you think you own the place!

  • Can’t find any stock of the men’s Uber light in L :/

    • +2

That's a good thing since the orange colour is… Questionable

      • -1

Could be worst, pink or fluro yellow. But I guess it depends on your sexuality, and if you are a tradie.

      • +1

        Official OzB colour ^_^

        • I was sure it was a collab

  • -1

Is it good enough for a trip to Tasmania this September?

  • +4

Uber light is a great jacket, super light (250g) and packs down small. Orange is not the best colour so I'd wait until the black ones are the same price, which happens from time to time.

    • It's okay if it's a layer inside with a shell on the outside.

      • That highly depends on the type of cold, along with how much you tolerate cold weather.

I've worn my Uber (with a layer underneath) down to around the 2-5'C range without a problem.

Shells would come more into play if it is also windy.

The Uber has been a great jacket, I have had mine over 5 years.

      • A shell outside a down jacket squashes the down rendering it less effective.

        • What about just a rain poncho?

        • I just need it to reflect heat and insulate a bit more.

          Fleece wasn't sufficient.

Just wore my goretex shell on top, and it's a good level of warmth so I'm happy.

I have a MacPac Fleece hoodie as well. Could layer that inside, then this uber light, then my shell.

If It was going to be my main jacket, I would opt for the HALO or a jacket with a greater fill power

    • Assuming non hooded? Wonder what the warmth is like

      • +1

Just purchased. It's comfortably warm. Definitely meant for layering in my opinion

Would recommend popping in to take a look.

        • +1

Im in NZ but was thinking about getting a montbell plasma 1000 delivered. Heaps of macpacs around here so I will try one on first before purchasing the king.

          • +1

@abuch47: If you're considering the Montbell Plasma, I would probably recommend an all-in-one with both Waterproof + Down Fill Power or an equivalent that keeps you warm and the wet out.

Other notable brands include Helly Hansen. If you can get them on sale, they're great.

Would recommend say an Uber Light + something like this.

Alternatively something with a wool lining/layer inside plus the shell on the outside.

            • +1

@4ksandknives: Great ideas but I am a backpacker (less than 7kg) and the weight/size is the biggest turnoff. Merino layers are coming in handy that's for sure.

              • +1

@abuch47: Oh, then less is more is definitely the thing.

Then the Montbell Plasma is nice because of the small space it takes up. I think it might be a tick bigger/thicker than the uber light, which also folds up into a roll.

  • The differences comparison on each model? (Apart from hood/non)

    • Just been in store
Hood vs no Hood (stitched on logo) personal choice Blue vs Green
Uber is smaller under armpit/chest but very light with smaller zip pulls and seemed slightly prone to jamming and the burnt orange may not be to all people’s taste

      • cheers
        heritage vs non heritage?

        • I went non-heritage as seemed slightly softer/silkier

  • Which one is lighter, halo hooded or uber hooded?

    • +1

uber light is the lightest jacket they have. Unhooded its 230-250g. But it won't be quite as warm, even though its still pretty warm

  • Hows the sizing on halo hooded

    • +1

Very large. Go one size down

  • +15

Multiple promo codes allowed. Used CLUB20OFF for first order and added a jacket for total > $100 https://www.bcf.com.au/p/macpac-mens-tui-polartec-micro-flee…

    • +1

Thank You. Real deals are in the comments. Stacked code in a new account.

      • Weird that worked for promos but I think they only allowed 1 gift card!

    • +3

thanks! used CLUB20OFF and paid with egift card (had access to 10% off through work scheme, rewardsmart)

    • How does the sizing run for these 'Tui' micro-fleece jacket?
Get a size smaller, than usual ?

  • What’s the change of mind returns policy at bcf? It says 30 days but to a gift card

    • +1

I returned my halo jacket last week just fine. I just told them it was too large for me

  • +1

There are other items that qualify for this code, including quicksilver etc. Some good stuff.

  • Thanks OP

Columbia puffect jacket down from 349 to 97 is the best bargain after visiting a store. Way better quality and about three times as thick. Feels about the same on as my kathmandu that cost me 400 on sale last year. Comes with a non detatchable hood which may annoy some

    • Got a link please?

    • It is even the best bargain, if you are kind enough to share the link. Thank you

  • -2

So the 2020s will be known for the people who wear things won't it

  • Think I'm a M but not sure.. might not have time to do an in-store try on. I'm usually a L jacket

  • Note that free shipping for orders over $99 doesn’t apply to clearance items

  • +1

    My order was canceled 😠

    • Mine cancelled as well - claim is they can't mail to my postcode. I live in a Melbourne suburb, not some rural area, this is strange

      • I had a chat with their representative. Order was cancelled because of low stock, not because they couldn't deliver.

  • Got the orange. Not very orange. Still happy.

  • Lol they delivered a wrong product (airbed) and given me a rrefund

    • Well now you can sleep easy knowing you got a refund and a free bed
