  • I just few min before purchased the LS109P model below, only for powering surveillance cameras, was it worth saving / spending $9 for LS108GP model ? please suggest.

That one is 100 megabit. IMHO gigabit is worth the extra $9.

      • but this is only to be used for the cameras, would the extra speed help ?

I can still replace them with this one if its worth.

        • +2

Nope. Most 4K cams are ~8Mbps bandwidth or less. Unless you're doing 8K cameras, but the quality would be garbage a lot of the time unless you have very high lighting levels for the sensor to work decent. Even most 4K cams aren't suited to low light use.

        • +1

Yekul is correct, it should be fine for cameras only.

        • +2

Not unless your up to 7 cameras could saturate the 100mbps uplink.

          • +1

@vodamerc: If NVR's network port only 100mbps it wouldn't matter.

        • Thanks all ! I will stick with the 10/100 for now .

Is this a good purchase to work with Reolink POE doorbell and then connect cameras in the future?

And do you connect a seperate hard drive or is it supposed to work online storage?

Sorry for the noob questions, will reseithis further on the weekend.

    • -1

Google is your best friend for this one. If you have the doorbell only, you can set it up to record to a micro SD card. See
      https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/12703727549721…

Once you add cameras, see https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012226514-A…

      • Thank you for your response.

I will have to figure out over the weekend, the best possible solution. Your response helps a lot.

Yes, this network switch will power and connect PoE doorbell and cameras to your network.

It won’t provide any storage functionality. For storage purposes, you need either a desktop pc or a Network Attached Storage (NAS) or a Reolink NVR.

      • A lot of cams have onboard sd card storage, too.

      • That helps, thank you!

        • I had the same question before purchasing the RLC-823A-Smart 8MP and thought I needed an NVR. I've connected it straight to the POE switch without the NVR and it has a microsd for playback.

The Officeworks linked switch is not a PoE model

    • +4

You're right, sorry. I have updated the description above.

  • What's the Oz bargain favourite camera and controller ? I have a old 4 camera swann system but would love more cameras

    • +4

      Reolink

    • For NVR, run frigate with a coral tpu

  • Temporarily out of stock.

  • Sigh just when I bought a 5 port….

    • Nothing wrong with 13 ports…

      • If I did buy this, can I just connect them together as a chain?

        • Yep, you can just plug them together but obviously it'll use a port on each.

  • Not sure how these PoE type switches work. If you don't need the PoE, can you just use these as a regular switch, or can you only plug in devices that need PoE?

    • Yes, you can plug non-PoE devices and they will work normally.

      • Alright, cool, thanks for telling me.
