Ayaneo Pocket Air 8GB/256GB Handheld Gaming Console $499 + Delivery ($399.20 Delivered with OnePass) @ Catch

80

Bit of a niche bargain for anyone looking for a mid-level handheld console but doesn't want to shell out for an Odin 2. Sign up for OnePass to pay $399 delivered.

I recently bought a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro but came very close to getting the 6GB/128GB version of the Ayaneo for $399. I did a bunch of research and it's a great handheld that was overshadowed by the similarly priced but more powerful Ayn Odin 2 at launch. Now that the price has dropped (while the Odin 2 is still around $600-$750), I think this is a great buy.

RRP according to catch is $679, but it hasn't been that price for a while. Currently $579 at JB.

I've spent the last 2 weeks setting up and using the similar Android-based Retroid, so feel free to AMA!

Retroid Pocket 5 was just teased.

    • 5.5inch AMOLED Screen
    • 16:9 Aspect Ratio
    • 1080p
  • It's only slightly more powerful the retroid pocket 4 pro

    • That's right, but the Ayaneo has a bigger AMOLED screen and looks more ergonomic. Personally I prefer the size of the Retroid but it's good to have options. Retroid was $100 cheaper to be fair.

      • Yep with the retroid 5 announced. If the pricing is similar to retroid 4 pro it would be a hard sell but this is still great compared to where it's normally priced. Despite not being popular compared to Odin etc it's a really good quality handheld.

Waiting for a good dedicated moonlight streaming client with:

    • 5.5in OLED 120hz
    • 16:9 Aspect Ratio
    • WiFi 6 minimum
    • Hall Effect Triggers + Joystick

    …. sooo close.

    • Where does the Ayaneo fall short?

    • I bought a GameSir G8 and an Edge 30 Pro once, almost amazing except I didn't really like way the phone sit in the device (and it was a 21:9 screen). In hindsight, I regret selling it.

It was only $400 for the pair too, and I got a full phone with camera. Why it's so hard to put it in a single, perfect device….

  • Can this play Skyrim

You could try use Winlator to emulate some Windows Games on Android but requires ALOT of tinkering.

I reckon the Switch version would run on Yuzu
