WA Gas Plan Comparisons 2024

Just got an email from AGL saying that my 56% discount on usage and supply charges is ending in October, which prompted me to do a bit of a shop around.

I remembered that someone had made a spreadsheet a couple of years back comparing the WA prices, and I found it here.

I've been through and updated it, please let me know if you are aware of any better deals or there are any errors that need updating. I don't know who the original creator of this spreadsheet is, but credit to you if you are reading.

You can save a copy so you can put in your units per day and make any other adjustments.

Origin claim that they don't have a daily account keeping fee, I just finished chatting with them on Facebook. Can any current WA Origin customers confirm that?
I've listed Origin as 0% discount because the rates they publish already include discount, and they don't specify exactly what percentage off it is. I suspect it's around 35% though.

AGL are moving me to their standard Saver plan, which is 35% disc (as per the spreadsheet). I'm going to hit them up to see if they can do any better than that before I look at moving.

  • Kleenheat:

Gas Usage Charge (initial 12 units) - 17.88
Gas Usage Charge (post 12 units) - 16.12

    Mine - 11.09c/unit & 9.99c/unit (inc RAC)

    Not sure why the difference?

Kleenheat's rates in the spreadsheet don't include the 35% disc (in your case, 38%). They are the full standard rates.
The cents per day below it includes the 35% disc.

  • I recently came off the 56% AGL, probably 3-4 months ago.
Managed to get them up to 42% discount with $50 credit on the first bill.
Probably going to move to Kleenheat shortly as they offered $50 credit for the first bill. But Kleenheat discounted rate doesnt apply to the service fee so not sure if its worth it

origin have a $150 referral credit offer

      • Nice one, just looked it up - https://www.originenergy.com.au/campaign/refer-a-friend/

Seems there T&C’s are against receiving a referral code via a website etc which is a pity or is it worth the risk?

        • Hopefully not
I'm sure people here would've brought it up if that were the case

          • @follow: How do you guys get the referral codes?

            • @elease: Go the origin energy page on here
              select the referral generator
              it's only $50 now

  • AGL is still giving the 41% Guaranteed discount off usage and supply charges

    • Where do you see this? The website only shows 35% for me

  • I am on variable rate with AGL and get 41% off.

Rates from my plan INCLUDING GST
    First 12 Units 17.875 c/Unit
    Thereafter 16.126 c/Unit
    Supply charge 25.894 c/day

My actual rates are higher compared to your spreadsheet. Not sure because of rates increased due to new FY.

Rates from my bill EXCLUDING GST
    FY 23/24
    First 12 Units 15.69 c/Unit
    Thereafter 14.15 c/Unit
    Supply charge 22.72 c/day

    FY 24/25
    First 12 Units 16.25 c/Unit
    Thereafter 14.66 c/Unit
    Supply charge 23.54 c/day

    Hope the above helps.

I'm the originator of the spreadsheet and am glad that you guys find it useful.
As for Origin, their usage charge is initial 13 units instead of 12 units so updated formula to suit.
    Personnally, I'm on AGL 41%

    • Ah, very cool. Thanks for setting it up.

AGL won't budge past their current offer of 35%, they said take it or leave it and apparently there is no longer a 41% discount available. I can see the Alinta fair go 46 offer (https://www.alintaenergy.com.au/fair-go-46-offer-details) but can't see any way to sign up for it. Just sent them an email so will wait and see what they say.

That looks to be the next cheapest.
