i'm looking for a small - as small as can be reasonable for the expense - powerbank with a USB-A so it can power up the kids light-my-bricks lego car

Just search ebay amazon aliexpress temu with keyword mini powerbank …. once you found one see what they use as listing name. For example tiny powerbank. Then serch again by those new words

I wouldn't search Aliexpress etc for power bank, or you'll end up with a fake with a fraction of the rated capacity
ive had a look at the amazon ones and theyre all about 10cm by 6 by 1 to 2cm.
i had hoped for one about 5cm ish ones.oh well.

Do you need it mobile? Otherwise you could just use a usb charger to plug into a wall?
If you search eBay for aa powerbank there are options that present usb-a with 2 aa battery slots. That would be pretty small, and cheap.
