We need discount on existing customers, they keep increasing price every few months.

Their raw material price is probably going up.

I probably wouldn't have as much of an issue with it if they were at least adding, expanding, or refining features… rather than constantly changing existing components just for the sake of change!

rather than constantly changing existing components just for the sake of change!

I only use the very basic stuffs but they keep increasing the price.

  • I saw the offer this morning when I was checking how many invoices and receipts I could do on the cheap plan for one of my other businesses.
But I wasn't about to post it here in the off chance it may entice some poor sucker into actually going with Xero!

  • Our small business currently uses MYOB Accountright at $177 per month, so can anyone who has used both tell me how does XERO compare?

Usually with these things the offerings tend to be pretty similar, but I thought I would gauge opinion of those in the know…

    • Personally I prefer AccountRight for ease of use / customizability but Xero is pretty good too.

Biggest thing to think about though is whether you can be bothered with the time spent switching and inevitable teething problems that will occur. Many of these problems will also likely cost you a bunch of extra accountants fees to iron out. Sad reality with these software's is that the cost of switching is quite high for people that aren't super familiar with accounting.

Also as other commenters have pointed out, at the current rate of price increases Xero will catch up to AccountRight soon enough.

Xero sucks. Negging deal because of the constant price increases.

In fact their sign up deals should be banned from ozb.

Xero are good at luring you in with these huge discounts on basic plans. Once you sign up, and the discount period ends, you realise you need to add 4 more modules, before you know it, the cost has tripled.

  • Bank of Melbourne business account offers 12 months of MYOB for the price of 1 month. We can use that and after 12 months, change to something else which is on offer.
Can not we churn business bank accounts to have these offers.. also, macquarie offers highest interest rate for business account at no charge..
we can keep that as main account and open as many other business accounts to have offers with these managing softwares? Anyone doing that?

Best of luck with 'churning' accounting software's. That's like choosing to sign up for an annual self-torture session

      Anyone doing that?

Xero makes it difficult to export data and re-import it, otherwise you could sign up for a new account whenever they had a new offer.

Best you can do is cancel the subscription for a few months when you don't need to do a BAS or payroll.

Expired.. but i want to nex anyway
Price increases have put them beyond options like quickbooks online.

Also have been waiting 7 years for the ability to have a 'notes' field in invoices.

As a tax agent who deals with all of the software, Xero is by far the simplest, most intuitive and easiest to work with from an integration perspective. It also allows us the easiest and most ready access to client data.

From a technical perspective, MYOB is more powerful, however that tends to get most people into trouble. Quickbooks & Reckon have issues inherent in the software, and that is why they are so much cheaper. From experience, the extra time it takes at year end to rectify the issues is the key reason we wouldn't recommend them to clients.

Yes Xero's prices are increasing significantly, however MYOB's are still worse, and the others are cheaper for reasons mentioned above. if you're concerned about the fees, talk to your accountant. Accountants get discounted pricing when they are the subscriber. We pass this discount onto clients, however I am aware that many do not, and see it as another revenue stream.

At the end of the day, our recommendation is still Xero for the vast majority of businesses due to the ease of use and functionality included. Is Xero perfect? Far from it, however it is the best of the bunch when all things are considered. Hopefully they don't rest on their laurels and go the way of MYOB.
