Quite a good watch but for the screwy HR monitoring during activities. Great with a HR band and for all other metrics and health things.

I think all wrist-based HR is a bit screwy really. I have a feeling that its one of those things that some people have wrists that 'just don't work' with the wrist-based optical HR sensors, & others will be lucky and always get good results.

Yes but the current Garmin range is particularly screwing in a particular way. It locks on (not a cadence lock) to a HR about 20bpm below what is real for 3-5minutes at the start of a run - then at some point works it out and jumps up instantly to a realistic value.

I accept there is a lag and wrist based HR isn’t perfect but this isn’t my first watch with it - but is definitely the worst.

Advice from Garmin has been to “warm up” before a run so it has time to work it out. So stupid. And adjust strap tightness.

Anyways, it’s a good watch when it’s giving real hr readings and I really like all the metrics and health tracking including sleep and HRV. It knew I had the flu before I did.

I just wear a HR strap.

    • I shared this last night thinking I would wake up and buy it. Now I'm awake but have 17 tabs about HR monitoring open, my HR has definitely increased.

  • 955 Solar has been the same price, makes this seem somewhat redundant, although they aren't the same.

    • opens about 12 tabs…

It annoys me that Garmins spec pages don't have specifics, just ticks. Makes it hard to work out if models have the same HR sensor or newer tech etc.
Currently 955 Solar is $599 at Rebel (and in stock, 2.3km away)
