Newbie to Qantas Health Insurance - Please Help!

Hi guys, just wanting some clarity regarding Qantas health insurance - I missed the recent 120K points offer for 60 days, but I see they're now offering 150k points for 6 months.

Based on my understanding from previous posts, to get the max points:

1) Sign up for Family Insurance, using a referral code for a bonus 5K points
2) Initially, skip Hospital Cover, and just choose the lowest cover for Extras (Basic)
3) Then right before the end of the 6 months, fully upgrade to Gold Top Hospital Cover, and Top Extras

If that's correct:

1) When exactly do I upgrade if it's a 6 month program? I understand it normally gets done on the last week for the 60 day deal, would the same apply here?
2) Do I choose to pay weekly, fortnightly monthly etc? Or it doesn't matter? And why for some reason does monthly appear more expensive than both weekly and fortnightly?

Thanks so much in advance, would really appreciate any guidance on this one!

New to Qantas points ;)

  • Those who have churned before how does it work with going to new provider?
Was the clearance certificate easy enough to transfer across and your served waiting periods honoured?

Planning to move at level then just increase to Top Hospital + Extras on Day 56.

    • Hi,

I'm not a churner but when I switched from Australian Unity to HIF, Australian Unity were slow.

As a general rule the waiting periods are honoured providing you are transferring to an equal (or lower) and not higher cover.

  • I haven't looked at the prices but I'm assuming the monthly one is more expensive as you're calculating a month to be 4 weeks when a month should be calculated as 4.33 weeks.

  • I looked at the terms and conditions and the points appear to be averaged based on the cover over the period?

    • It may have changed… I got my 120K points on Thursday, 60 days in as anticipated
