75 Inch TV Suggestion: Hisense U8NAU or TCL C855?

Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for a new budget TV, and with a budget of around $2,500, I've narrowed it down to two options: the 75'' Hisense U8NAU and the 75'' TCL C855. Both seem to offer great value for the price, but I'm having a hard time deciding which one to go for.

My primary use will be watching Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video, with some light gaming on the side. I'm looking for something with good picture quality, decent sound, and smooth performance for streaming and gaming.

If anyone has experience with either of these models or any insights into which might be the better choice, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT - I checked out both TVs in the store today, and the Hisense definitely looked better. I'm not sure if it was the demo video, but it definitely looked better.

TCL, Android TV anyday over the linux based VIDAA that Hisense uses.

I have a Hisense Q8 and don't get me wrong it's a good TV but i feel for the same money i'd get a TCL any day of the week. Have both a TCL C815 and X4 which i picked up second hand and work terrifically.

Android TV anyday over the linux based VIDAA

I've seen this mentioned here a few times and I'm wondering why? Other than being able to install a much wider range of apps (which I can't for the life of me figure out why you want a mass of apps on a TV) I don't see much difference. All of the smart TV OS just seem to have a huge amount of basically bloatware already, Vidaa seems to be the most basic which seems ideal for a TV.

Compatibility with apps, availability with apps and chromecast are a few things that Android has over VIDAA

Yeah but what apps are people installing on TVs? My understanding is all the major streaming apps are available on both. It's not a mobile device so what functionality is so critical that one is the superior choice to the other? Are people doing their banking and online shopping on their TV? Editing photos? Checking their Opal balance?

Genuinely curious as I'm thinking of buying later in the year and from my very quick preliminary look, in terms of pure TV/streaming use, they're equal yet I keep seeing comments like Android is superior (and I'll mention I'm an Android phone user so there's no bias). Maybe it's just a perception thing because of what you could do compared to what people actually do.

TCL for sure mate. I have TCL 845 and LG C3 OLED and the picture quality seems to be the same. The only difference is in the TV unit responsiveness. Thus, TCL has awesome picture quality and google TV makes it even better.
    I hope this helps…

  • I got the 85 inch c855 from appliances online for $2650. Very happy with it overall so far. Gaming is great on it too.

First post wonder posts the same message on Whirlpool. Do you know it's rude to join a community and ask a question without contributing first and then even more so when you post the same message on another forum.

What in the boomer is this drivel. Sit down. You dont own the internet.

  • Wow, we have a forum police. Thanks to him, I now have an awesome forum to discuss with others.
Anyway, C855 for sure. More dimming zone, better breaker, lighter screen. Unless you often watch intense sports, where Hisense has algorithmic optimisation.

    • I have a 75Q8 Hisense and a 55C845 TCL. not the exact same models but previous gen. On free to air TV (HD) the Hisense eats the TCL no matter how much calibration I do (much more natural skin tones and colours). No doubt if you drive both on external 4K feed, results may differ. Its true the TCL has very bright colours (too bright sometimes)

If i had your choice, I would lean Hisense but check them out on some common feeds in both free to air HD and a 4K feed. True what they say about inbuilt hisense media player not being android - however I found this inbuilt player did play Youtube 4K in extended dynamic range without downscaling. I also have a basic Nvidia shield on the Hisense. This way I get the best of both worlds.

      Good luck on your choice

  • I think it’s best if you visit a store like JB Hi-Fi and compare both TVs side by side, if possible. That way, you can make an informed decision. I’ve had a Hisense TV since 2019, and it’s still going strong. Don’t get me wrong—it does have its fair share of bugs and issues, like the occasional black screen of death, but it still works, and I use it for a good 10 hours a day. Anyway, I’m really excited to upgrade to the 98-inch TCL 855 when it goes on sale.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have gone with the majority and bought the TCL C855.

    • Good stuff mate, did you manage to get decent deal on this one? I’m looking at getting one too, but not sure if should wait for Black Friday sales later this year

I got it from JB HIFi for $2475 (price matched from appliance central) + $59 delivery fee.

I guess it would be cheaper around black friday but you’d have to wait for a few months.

        • Price has dropped to $2358 at appliance central now. Not sure if you can get JB to refund the difference? Wonder if I should pull the trigger now or wait until Black Friday..

@anon1717 - how are you finding the new tv mate?

@Crowing: Hey, i am licking the picture quality of the tv. It has very slight judder in fast moving action scenes even after turning motion clarity off. I am not sure if it is present in all devices and more noticeable on a big screen. Apart from it, i am liking the tv.

            • @anon1717: I found this too on some modes, not on vivid mode, so i started there and tuned the vivid out!

              • @Ademos: You can turn off motion clarity in other modes and it seems to fix the issue.

@anon1717: You can keep it in vivid mode though, which seems to have a positive effect on sports etc. So strange that it only affects some modes, not others, with that turned on.

  • The Hisense 75 Inch Q6NAU QLED 4K Smart TV is on sale at Costco at the moment for $1199.99.
