The 2017 Houghton CW Ferguson is vibrant red/purple in colour with a garnet hue.
Brooding and complex. Bright fruit flavours of mulberry, plum, blackberry and cassis combine with cedar, spice, dark chocolate and hints of vanillin derived from the high quality French oak maturation. A wonderfully rich and complex wine.
The full flavoured palate has an imposing presence displaying complex bramble fruit, dark chocolate and a firm, but fine tannin structure. A wine of great length and flavour, complex, and perfectly balanced ensuring a long future with years of life ahead.
Cellaring Potential: 20 years
96 GOLD POINTS - “A rich 68/32% blend, wild yeast-open fermented, matured in Bordeaux-coopered barriques (33% new) for 16 months. Frankland River offers the ability to make cabernet of intensity and length, yet make no demands on the taster for the calibrated flow along the palate.” James Halliday August 2022
At least it's James Halliday scored.
