Do these actually work? Has anyone here tried them before?

    • Curious to know as well.

Was put on these 2 weeks in the lead up to having gastric sleeve surgery following the "intensive" level. Dropped 14kg in 2 weeks with a mix of their soups/desserts/shakes and bars and their allowed food list. The shakes taste horrific to me, had a much easier time with the bars but YMMV. Getting through the first 4 days was rough, but much easier once through that. Would be a mix of the Optifast products and then generally a "decent" meal from the allowed list. Some people add some plain meat protein with decent results once a day but I went full throttle into it.

Edit: there are other levels below the intensive level, for a more steady weight loss

Hey, I just wanted to say I really appreciate you taking the time to write this up. I hope your journey's been going well, it helps to know there are other people going through it all as well but that change is possible.

I'm going to give these a go knowing that they can work! Getting married soon so it's a good time to get my life and health on track.

Of course calorie restriction works in weight reduction. Its the only thing that works. Opifast provides around 250 kcal per packet and the average person needs 2000 kcal per day.

Instead of expensive Optifast I have a glass of milk or Up & Go Protein Energise.

These are meal replacement products and doctors or dietitians will prescribe 1-3 of these per day. Meal replacement, not in addition to normal meals.

Yes it works but with precaution. Meal replacement shake is suitable for people needing to lose weight fast eg. for operation. However, it is not a long term solution. You will most likely not be able to sustain meal replacement as lifestyle forever. So when you go back to your original lifestyle habit, you will just gain your weight back. I've tried it 3-4 times and gained the weight back straight after.

It's only when I completely change my eating and and lifestyle habit that I can really maintain a healthy body. You also better off getting all the nutrients from unprocessed food sources anyway. Shakes should only compliment, not replace them.

Yep they work. Was on them for 4 months and lost 10kg. Replaced two meals per day on them and had a healthy dinner.

    • That's amazing! Did you manage to keep the weight off though?
I find that's the hardest part for me, sometimes I rebound and its as if my appetite gets even stronger after a couple of months of calorie restriction

  • They make me more hungry these shakes, but everyone is different.

If you replace 3 meals a day with the shakes and get through the first 3 or 4 days until ketosis begins it then becomes a lot easier. I dropped 30 kg a few years ago and have done another week earlier this year. Chocolate is the best flavour although there is a newer high protein variant that I felt was good too. Not advisable to start an exercise program until you finish the weight loss phase but changed my life imho.

    • These are about half carbs so you won't hit ketosis on these shakes

  • cheaper on ebay with ebay plus

    • Link?

    • $10 postage kills the saving

  • Would a milo with skim milk and a vitamin tablet do the same thing?

    • +1

Milo has too much sugar to work properly, you would need a chocolate protein shake instead.

      • Thanks.

They work if you stay on the plan. No need to check the colesworth specials every week, there is nothing in those catalogs for the Optifast plan.
If you can get past the first 3 or 4 days on Optifast plan you no longer feel like eating. The thought of having another Optifast shake does nothing for you. Don’t even look at anyone else eating real food or you will fall off the Optifast wagon.
It tastes ok. Can add a teaspoon of coffee to the vanilla for variety.
Avoid the Optifast packet “soups” - awful.
The difficult part is will power for staying on the plan, but it does work, and Optifast is total meal replacement.
Handy calculator for “how long” on diet is https://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/weight-lo…
Prediction was very accurate when I used in past.
    6 days supply per box.

    • I personally found adding some of the allowed vegetables to the soups made it somewhat bearable, but think it's different for everyone

      • It's the taste really that bad?

        • Honestly to me it wasn't, when mixed with some vegetables to make it heartier, but everyone finds the flavours/variants different so it's really mostly trial and error…and mostly just stomaching it to get it down because it definitely brings upon the case of the miserables when first starting a VLCD program like this.

I will say though, the first 4 days were super rough and I didn't think I was going to be able to stick to it, after those first 4 days though when my body hit what I assume was ketosis I felt bloody great! It was like something clicked
