When Switching Utility Providers Do You Need to Let Your Old One Know?

When switching Internet in the past it's always been a straight forward process but I have always contacted my old provider to cancel. Just in case. I'm worried and unsure I'll get charged double if I don't close my account.

I was wondering, is this necessary? Or does the new retailer usually trigger off an account closure with the old company?

Is this the case for all utility types?

Your new provider will take over and notify the previous one. You still should review and settle final bills and any contract obligations.

Some Internet providers require you to cancel with them in writing and have a waiting period.
