Where Is The Cheapest RWC Provider in Melbourne

Hi all, I wanted to get RWC for my car done, it's a 2019 model.

I wanted to know what's the cheapest place I can get this done and where? I am running tight and wanted to know the cheapest. I am located in Dandenong, Victoria distance is not an issue as long as its within Melbourne but I need the cheapest.

  • Maybe take a deposit first before you do RWC?

roadworthy isnt going to change much as it still needs to be legal, testers now need to send a whole stack of photos off to vicroads when processing a roadworthy, this has stopped many of the dodgy roadworthys of the past

You would drive the whole way across the city to possibly save $10?

  • how much is the cheapest that you have found so far?

Recently went through this. Best I found was $250 at rapid tune Carrum downs.
Ended up going to a place just of Frankston Dandy Road because I thought he quoted $225 over the phone. Turns out it was $325 and I "misheard" him.
There were 2 mechanics who show $180 on their website but I couldn't get them on the phone to book (they never picked up). Guessing their website is most likely out of date

Average $200 for a rwc inspection. Then if they're legit, a few minor things <$200 like wipers, bulbs to actually issue the rwc. If they're dodgy, >$2000 for things like new blinker fluid to give you a RWC. Just wanting the cheapest rwc inspection, good luck with that.

Cheapest one might make up for the savings by magically finding faults that need fixing. You dont want cheapest, you want most honest.

Are you confident the vehicle will pass and just need it signed off, or do you have no idea and want to find out whats wrong?

If you have no idea, you probably should go to your regular mechanic first to get them to make sure its OK before going for the roadworthy so you dont get any nasty surprises.

  • Off topic, but OMG! NSW RWC equivalent is a standard fee set by the state government and less than $50. Is there a major difference between the states for RWC?

    • Yes, Vic roadworthy is a lot more thorough and requires mechanic to take wheels off car, take pictures of vehicle and upload them to VicRoads database, drive car to perform brake test and also includes a 2nd inspection within 14 days once you have resolved any faults.

But we only need one when buying/selling/transferring registration

      • Vitrorian inspection also isnt annual, so youd imagine theres more chance of finding faults in older cars that havent seen a mechanic for years. In NSW its more cursory, but also annual. Less to go wrong in 12 months i guess.
