  • Shouldn't this be 12GB of ram?

    • +2

      That's the s24+

      • +1

I see, thanks. I suppose 8GB is plenty for most still.

        • +16

Apparently it's "enough" for a MacBook "Pro" as all the Apple fans scream on every Mac deal. Surely it's enough for a mere Galaxy S24.

          • @Doge: Well,……oils aint oils lol.

            • +1

@ozhunter68: Ya damn right when you say OILS AINT OILS!

              • @Chip Diamond: Yep. 4 gig is still ok for a Chromebook doing basic task, try that on a Windows 11 machine and you'll be waiting whilst programs load a while. On Android 10 or earlier 4 gig ram was still ok, but on a Oppo or Samsung running Android 12 or 13, another story.

Here before the "I got it for so much cheaper using five codes stacked with a trade in bonus" comments

    • +7

And here before the Exynos vs Snapdragon crews do their kangaroo hop battle

    • -1

…and only had to the trade in an S23 to get that deal

      • Nobody actually sends in their old phone back… 😂

        • -2

The same way nobody includes the fee for non return when bragging about how cheaply they bought a phone

          • @PhilToinby: The $60 fee to save $500? Yeah I don't blame them 😂

  • +1

Is the camera alot better on the ultra vs base model?

    • +16
      • Main Camera:
        • S24: 50MP sensor
        • S24 Ultra: 200MP sensor, enabling superior detail, particularly in low-light conditions.
      • Telephoto Cameras:
        • S24: Single 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
        • S24 Ultra: Dual telephoto system, offering 3x and 5x optical zoom, resulting in much greater flexibility when shooting distant subjects.
      • Ultrawide Camera:
        • S24: 12MP ultrawide lens.
        • S24 Ultra: 12MP ultrawide lens, likely with similar performance to the S24.
      • Video Recording:
        • S24: Up to 8K 30fps, 4K 60fps.
        • S24 Ultra: Up to 8K 30fps, 4K 120fps, enabling smoother slow-motion footage.
      • Additional Features:
        • S24 Ultra may have advanced features like improved night mode, AI-powered scene optimization, and more detailed zoom capabilities due to its higher resolution sensors.
Overall, the S24 Ultra offers a significantly more powerful and versatile camera system, especially for those who prioritize zoom capabilities and capturing high-quality photos in challenging lighting conditions.
      • Thanks for the detailed post!

Also is it easy to transfer all my biometric logins to the new phone? I have a s21 base

I think apps installed is already attached to my gmail account but was not sure about all the biometric logins i set .

        • +5

Check what I wrote below, you were my intended audience.

          Here's how it generally works:
          * During Setup: When you first set up your S24, you'll be prompted to transfer data from your old phone. This process usually includes the option to transfer biometric data.
          * Samsung Smart Switch: If you miss it during setup, you can use Samsung's Smart Switch app to transfer data, including biometrics, between your phones.
          * Samsung Pass: Your biometric logins for apps and websites are likely stored in Samsung Pass. Ensure Samsung Pass is set up on your new phone, and your logins should be available.
In most cases, the transfer is seamless, and you won't need to re-enroll your biometrics on the S24. However, there might be instances where you need to re-register them due to differences in sensor technology or security protocols.

          • +1

@seamonkey: Understood now. Thanks very much!

      • Does it have a macro lens?

  • Is there much benefit upgrading from the S21? It seems minimal to me.

    • Thinking upgrading to ultra for the camera aswell.

Does the s24 ultra have ai for picture rendering thing aswell?

      • +3

At least consider waiting, .I know I am. My entire household are currently all running S22 Ultras.

        • Samsung Galaxy S20 Series: Released in February 2020
        • Samsung Galaxy S21 Series: Released in January 2021
        • Samsung Galaxy S22 Series: Released in February 2022
        • Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Released in February 2023
        • Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Released in January 2024

In short, as we are at end of August, you are basically talking about like 4-5 months tops.

        • Thanks for the advice!

Yeah good to wait for sale!

          • +3

@ATTS: Not even a sale but instead you could jump on a S25 Ultra (I heard reliable rumours they'll go back to calling it a Note) so you'll be jumping many generations and with what happens with pre-order you'll probably secure yourself a really good deal. Certainly it's worked that way in the past.

            • @seamonkey: Cool thanks

S25 sounds really good. Must be better improved camera aswell

With preorder what is the discount percentage btw? Based on past

              • +3

@ATTS: Wouldn't want to give you wrong information on a phone that doesn't yet exist or to consider what Samsung may do I just don't want to give you inaccurate information. But generally speaking people have found that it's hard to replicate a deal later that even matches pre-order from Samsung flagship releases. They are usually great deals with many bonuses stuff you can sell if you don't want to use it such as watches and the like but nobody really knows yet of course. But worth watching the Samsung live conference when it happens in January 2025.

                • @seamonkey: Not a problem. Thank you! Will do!

    • +2

S10 here. I am perfectly fine with it, doesn't lag and battery still lasts a day with normal usage.

…but it just feels old… It's an S10 and we are up to the s24…

      • +3

S10 would have been 2019. In 2020, it jumped to the S20 and has followed the year since.

      • +3

Biggest issues with the older samsungs is the batterys expanding and popping the rear covers off.

      • +1

They did skip 11-19, so this is really the s15

      • I replaced my S10 with an S23. It's lots faster, cameras are better, charges faster, battery lasts longer, fingerprint better. Only complaint is screen resolution is much lower, which is not really an issue unless you want to stick the phone in a VR headset!

      • Try my wifes S8. Still does the basics but now no security so can't get the latest bank Apps. Now looking for a replacement. Samsung A55? She doesn't want fastest video gaming rig but a nice camera would be nice. Our family tends to keep phones as just ring text and off vid on Whats App.

        • I almost always but the last years flagship phone rather than a mid spec phone. If you can wait for a sale, the S23 should be cleared out soon, and that's a great phone.

        • Weird, I've had to go back to a Huawei back up phone after breaking my s21 ultra. Last security update on this was 2022, ubank and Google wallet still works… Probably treading on thin ice but it works

    • Seems minimal…. Should be their motto. How do you release a phone year after year, so they buy 2 grand of phone.

    • +4

We upgraded two S21 Ultra 512GBs to two S24 Ultra 512GBs. I still kept the S21 Ultra without a SIM & can't really see much difference. Most of the extras such as AI I would never use.

    • Ye I got the S21+ but at this stage Im just waiting for the S25+ and get a decent trade-in pre-order deal.

  • +6

I appreciate this looks like a good deal so not a dig at the OP for highlighting this but as someone who still is happy with the Galaxy S10 I just can't see why I need to upgrade. I don't feel there is anything that I dislike or feel could be dramatically improved with what I have but clearly people out there see the S10 as an antique nowadays so always wonder what I am missing? Maybe its just a GenX thing and I truly am getting old.

    • +4

Security updates. Incremental improvements to screen, camera.

Other than that, probably not too much. I don't really feel that's been that big a change over my last two phones.

    • +2

      How's your battery going?

      • My s10 lasts a day, no anxiety there.

      • +1

S20FE at the 2.5 year mark had decent battery health and was lasting through the day easily.

I didn't really put in too much effort other than ensuring the battery wasn't run down too low. There are also settings for battery health to limit charge.

      • I changed the battery on my S10 using the iFixit kit. Was a bit fiddly, and the overall improvement was not massive. But it was noticeable.

    • the extra 1 second to load snap!!

    • Maybe its just a GenX thing

I would imagine so. You can't notice that the camera quality is not as good, the lag on the phone itself when navigating on a slower processor, degraded battery life etc.

If you are not a power user and you like the s10/it suits your needs, then go ahead and stick with it.

    • I upgraded from my s10 to this phone and felt like a huge upgrade for me

  • +2

    Hows this a bargain?

    • -3

Probably like how a $1300 for a 8gb ram laptop is considered a "bargain" for some

    • +1
      • larger storage capacity
      • no faffing around with coupons
      • not buying from a dodgy retailer
      • better decide than say a G54 suggested here
  • -2

Ait people upgrading from s24 to pixel 9?

    • Downgrading you mean.

  • Is 8gb a good option? I know these phones will have 5 years os upgrade. But what about lag

    • I haven't experienced any on my S24

      • I meant agreed few years of os upgrades, just like phones which are skipping AI by blaming smaller ram

    • +1

I have an S10 and I think it has 6gb ram. It doesn't lag at all.

      I don't game.

    • 7 years updates

  • G54 is much better

    • I haven't bothered unboxing my $29 G54 becsuse it is unlikely to hold ground against my S24

  • is this snapdragon or exynos?

    • Exynos. The modem sucks for data reception.

      • -3

        It's actually snapdragon

        • From the Amazon deal link look under Compare Galaxy S Series about half way down page.
          You will find - S24 - Chipset Exynos 2400

  • +1

    This or Pixel 9 Pro?

    • +5

Personally, the Samsung… I prefer Samsung's One UI interface and features over stock Android / barebones.

The feature that limits the battery full charge to 85% for battery longevity on the Samsung is very good, is probably why my S10 still easily lasts a day. Just based on my S10 experience, definitely another Samsung flagship. I like Samsung Health for tracking my sleep patterns, pedometer, heart rate sensor (with dedicated heart rate sensor on the back), fitness programs and running coach… And shortcuts like double press power button for camera, and bixby button to turn on the flash etc. These would be considered "bloat" by Pixel fans but I use them, they don't slow down the phone, and I can uninstall/ disable the others.

      • Yeah, I also had S10 since new from 2019, but my S10 battery's does not last a day anymore. I should've set it up earlier for the battery protection.
I now have just bought the S24+ from the Samsung's secret sale. It has been Amazing upgrade. Would recommend every Samsung's fan out there to go for it.
No, I have no problem with the Exynos 2400 SoC, in case anyone is asking. S24 Ultra is too big for me.

Will keep my S24+ until an S29 series is coming out.

  • Which is better, pixel 9/pro or this one ?

    • Pixel 9 Pro compared to this one but better to go for S24 Ultra. I missed the Samsung Secret Sale few days back for S24 Ultra as I was interested in Pixel but now regretting it. Waiting for next sale.

      • Did you end up getting a Pixel 9? What's your regret?

        • Regret on not getting S24 Ultra. Pixel 9 doesn't look that interesting in terms of hardware and performance.

          • @OZMaverick: ahh oops, I read your sentence differently before! I wanted to see what the Pixel 9 Pro Fold would be like before deciding between a Z Fold and P9P Fold.

  • Why is S23 similar pricing to S24? Tried to search for S23+ and the pricing is not too much difference to S24+. Same as the Ultra variant too.

    • Because local S23s come with the more desirable Snapdragon SoC.

      • But the 24 Ultra should be more superior than 23, right? Since 24 has SD as well.

  • I have same as that. All good. Except gps.
Always lost signal. Even when you driving too.
    No good

    • +1

      Sounds like a warranty job

  • Speaking of warranty, if you buy a S24 of any model from US, is Australian warranty covered by Samsung still? or is it only a 1 year return warranty to Samsung US or wherever?

Has anybody had any experiences buying a Overseas version and had issues with returns or warranty? I always wondered so Interested to hear.

    • Imported Samsung devices won't have local Samsung warranty. If you purchased a USA Samsung phone you will need to send it back to USA at your own cost to get it serviced, Samsung AU won't touch it.

      Terms: https://www.samsung.com/au/support/warranty/?srsltid=AfmBOoo…

      B. Except where an International Product Warranty has been provided with your Samsung product, warranty service will only be provided in the specific country where the Samsung product was originally purchased. For example, if you have purchased the Samsung product within Australia, warranty service will be limited to Australia only.

      • Thanks @scrimshaw 👍
