  • Paid $15 - All to charity :)

    • +6

What's the point? The ones who've put this deal together need the charity, and you'd rather give triple the average to anyone else possible.

      • -3

THQ isn't a charity case they have made their own grave. Where they once published interesting and unique games they have tried too hard to emulate EA in recent times.

The bundle operates can get a bit, but they aren't a charity case either, particularly as this bundle is steam/windows only, which goes against what they originally pushed.

As far as giving to charity in general, I prefer not to use items like this (or red light collectors, etc) but to give larger lump sums to charities I have researched. I understand that charities need to work like this to survive however.

      • I wouldn't say that the overall average will be 'tripled' based on a single $15 spend. It will increase slightly if any, given that most Ozbargainers will probably sink in $1 :)

        • +5

They said give triple the average (which was done), not raise the average to triple.

      • Well, for the childs play charity: If a hospital can't find 20c in each patients fee to do this without requiring donations then frankly the hospital is being mismanaged.

I'm not saying that having donations and games to play is bad, I'm saying that the hospital management is useless.

Considering that, I'm happier if the developer gets it.

      • +1

No point giving money to charity? I beg to differ.

    • +3

Yea! Screw those hard working developers that that often live on a very low hours to pay ratio. Games just grow on trees right?

      • -2

You don't pay the developers you pay the publisher. If you want to support the developer, go look at kick starter.

Sure there is a flow on effect, but consider where your money is really going.

        • +2

While I see where you are coming from it is the publisher who pays the bills and wages for these types of AAA games. My money is going to THQ (with some to the charities).

    • +2

Ugh, THQ needs it more - or we won't see Darksiders continued. People donate to charity all the time, the game devs under THQ are going to be collecting charity very soon if THQ don't get some coin.

      • Or this is a sign that THQ is non-functional, and Vigil can either find another publisher or possible skip a publishing deal entirely.

Keeping THQ afloat a little longer isn't going to solve their problems. Traditional big publishers aren't adapting to the modern market.

  • +1

Awesome bundle - but like many others I have most of the games and have gone well past the saturation point :)

    • Good thing is, if I only want one of the games, it's still worth $6, especially since some goes to charity (and supporting future bundles).

  • Awesome I have none of them except saints row. got the complete one for 7 dollars last time on steam. 1 DOLLAH

  • you must be crazy not to buy them for a couple of dollars to add to your Steam collection :p

haven't played all of them except COH

  • +3

Dropped 15$, least I can do - Darksiders is one of the best games this generation.

    • +1

and I gave 0$ of it to charity, THQ needs the money and I want more developers / publishers alive, not one giant conglomerate because all th medium and small ones collapse.

      More CoH, more Darksiders please.

  • Aww they gave one key for every game except for SR3. I was hoping to give away some steam keys for some other games as I own some of them already.

    • +2

Good news is you can get another set for $1.

  • -2

How much do I have to pay to get all 7 games mate?

    • +2

As has been stated in this thread and on the front page 3 times - above the average.

Currently this means around $6, but will change.

      • thanks for the quick reply Bruce much appreciated mate - so once i pay above the average i get the 7 game keys via email to be activated on steam?

        • After you pay you'll be able to claim your keys on the humblebundle website. You will get two steam keys - the first one unlocks everything except SR3, the second one unlocks SR3.

        • You will get an email with a link to a page which has 2 keys. One will give you SRtT, the other will give you all the other games.

If you paid less than the average you will only get the one key.

        • Thanks again for the reply Bruce - so if I were to pay $1 I would only get 1 game or 6 games?

        • You would get all except SR3. You would also be screwing over humble bundle, the charities and the developers.

        • thanks stripe for the reply - ok mate ill think about it - did you end up paying over average mate? how much did you pay?

        • Correct

        • +3

Do you live under a bridge?

        • Dude, the average is 6 bucks. That's a dollar a game.

If you want to be cheap, pay $1 and forget about Saints Row 3. You get 5 games or so for 20 cents each.

  • Hmm, I don't have any of these, might buy it for the sake of it :-)
What would be an acceptable amount? $10, $15?

    • Kinda up to you. Personally I already owned Red Faction and Metro 2033, and Idunno if I'll play CoH, so I basically just paid $6 for SRT. Might up it if they add more games that I'm interested in.

    • +1

I simply did the slightly above average. I'm not a PC gamer so chances are I will never play these, but for ~$6 it's nice to have a games collection. But I do think that a good price is ~$10 considering what you get. plus some of it gets donated to charity so you can't lose, even if you and up gifting it to a mate.

  • +5

The average is $5.65. This is ridiculous. The whole 'pay-what-you-want' scheme is really showing us the cheapskates amongst our society.

    • Part of this is that there is a lot of unhappiness about the windows only DRM locked part of this bundle. In the past Linux users have paid significantly more (and I'm sure some windows users) for this reason, and to support getting more games released this way.

To release this bundle has annoyed a lot of people. Not that it isn't a good deal, but if I contributed large amount to humble bundle in the past for getting things out DRM free there is a huge loss of good will when this happens.

      • +2

I think there are just as many (if not more) people out there who want games on Steam as there are who want them DRM free. I really don't think it's a 'huge loss of good will'.

        • It is for the Humble Bundle specifically, because of how they marketted themselves in the first place.

If you care enough to read some comments:

          https://plus.google.com/+HumbleBundle/posts

Not say this is all justified, but there is certainly a fair number of people who are not happy.

        • +8

You're always going to see more of the disgruntled people than you are of the happy people. Personally I hate having bundles where the games aren't on Steam.

        • Just cos they are on steam doesn't mean they have DRM.
I have games in steam I could launch directly from the install folder if I wanted to .. but steam is easier, keeps my game updated, allows me to other steam things (chat with friends, surf the net ) in-game if I launch it via steam.

        • +1

Even if you launch them from the install folder, it still runs via Steam. The executable launches Steam in the background to validate your account. Steam is most definitely DRM, just the least intrusive kind (usually).

      • You know what's funny? I actually refuse to buy any digital game that doesn't come with a steam key.

        • Sure, but this is NOT exclusive. Lots of DRM free games also come with steam keys. It's about the ability to run them without steam.

    • +1

I think it's more a sign of what the market is like these days. With so many AAA free to play games, cheap iOS/Android games, and a thriving indie market that cuts out a lot of the middle-men and production costs (allowing for cheap prices), it's really hard to justify spending a lot of money on older games (they're all at least a year old).

  • Awesome, awesome bundle!

  • Fantastic Deal! I have purchased and beat the average even though I already owned most of these games. I have been wanting CoH steam keys for a long time now!

    • is company of heroes good mate?

      • It is. The later expansions didn't add a lot for the price (ToV alone is still $20 on steam), but the game is very good.

        • yeah i bought the bundle for $5.69 how about you bruce?

        • bruce where do i download my 7 games?

        • I bought CoH a long time ago. Got it again for $6 just for spare keys. You will get an email with instructions.

        • +1

fantastic mate - all good now - thanks bruce - what is your steam ID mate can i add ya mate

        • +1

Sorry, not big on adding random people to networks.

        • +1

ok mate no worries have a good one

        • +9

… I've read this thread a few times and it gets more awkward every time

  • So I've bought a bundle for myself but I'm looking to buy another one as a gift for a friend. Will there be any issues if I buy the second bundle with the same email address and choose yes to "Is this order a gift?", or should I use a different email address altogether?

Sorry for the noobish questions. This is my first digital purchase for games so it's all new to me :)

    • Purchased a second bundle as a gift with the same email address and seemed to work fine. Live and learn :)

    • +1

Nope, it will be fine. When you order it as a gift they send you a link that you can give to your friend and when your friend clicks the link they can enter their email address and the bundle will be linked to their email.

      • Already bought the second bundle as above, but thanks for the reply nonetheless :)

  • Saints Row the Third is worth the extra $5 (or whatever it is now) provided you'll have someone to play it with.

HILARIOUS MULTIPLAYER (full single player campaign is available as co-op).

  • I have every one of those games except for Darksiders :( But still a good deal, might get it for my bro.

  • This humble bundle has pretty much saved THQ. Their stocks nearly went up by 40%.
    http://www.slashgear.com/thq-stock-climbs-nearly-40-after-re…
Bought BTA for sure with THQ taking 70% of my money.

    • Idunno if I'd say it's 'saved' them. Despite climbing 40%, it's still barely half what it was a month ago, and a quarter what it was 6 months ago. Besides, I'm not sure this bundle will be worth as much to them as what the stock gain indicates in MktCap ($3M). The default split gives them 65% of the money, but they also have to pay out the developer from that (THQ is only the publisher), and likely Steam as well.

      • -2

It was only one day, this goes on for 2 weeks, surely they could go up. I know about paying the developers but Steam pretty much earn nothing from the HB keys. Steam only get money from the tradables and when a games wants to go onto, once on Steam, Steam gives a key gen to the the developers which give out the keys, which they sell to retailers like Amazon

        • Steam gives a key gen to the the developers which give out the keys

Steam doesn't give out the keys for free, not even to the developers of the game.

        • Steam doesn't give out the keys for free, not even to the developers of the game.

          Remember this

          http://www.puppygames.net/blog/?p=1082

They had a keygen. Steam of course don't give keys to a game to public but they do to a developer.

They had a keygen to give the keys out. And how about The Heist App

They lots and lots of steam keys for Puzzle agent & eets & World of Goo, at least 25,000 of these keys were given away, how could a company afford this especially when the app was for free. 25,000*$25=$625,000 Could they really afford that much just for one app?

Which that much I think that had to have a keygen.

  • So pay more than average will also get "saints row three"? If I already have some of the games can it gift it?

    • No. You get a single Steam key for everything except SR3. It doesn't matter if you already have some of the games; you don't get giftable copies.

      • Give someone the steam key, voilà that's their gift.

      • Yeah just bought and only received one key.

        Anyway doesn't matter.

  • +3

    Bruce has an admirer lmao

  • Thanks OP, bought.

  • cheers

    ordered 2 :)

  • Guys I have a question

    This is my situation
Right now I'm using my desktop that is locked at this new place and have no homeline internet here,
I want to download the games but i've got a portable netbook i'm willing to bring to my other home,
Is it possible to transfer the install file to my desktop when I get home or is it installed directly to steam??

    • +1

You can backup the games, so yes, it is possible to transfer the game.

      • Thanks heaps for the link, Will see how it works, I'm on the netbook now currently downloading darksiders which is 10GB!! Was not expecting the games to be this big.

        • +2

IMO the Steam Backup feature is quite temperamental - I've never been able to get it to properly launch. Just copying all the game files to an identical directory will do the job (see Ace's comment below)

    • +1

All Steam games require the Steam client to be running in order to launch unfortunately. In order for the Steam client to run, you need to be signed in which requires an internet connection. ALTHOUGH…

Steam now has a semi-functional offline mode but you need to have an internet connection the first time you launch the game for offline mode to work - You need to launch each game individually in offline mode when you have an internet connection for them to work in true offline mode with no connection.

If you decide to download the games now anyway, you can transfer everything to the desktop by just moving across the entire /Steam/ folder in Program Files. First make sure you have Steam installed on the desktop and have launched it at least once, then make sure you exit before copying the files across - Make sure to select yes to overwrite all files & folders.

Maybe if you tried combining these tips - Launch everything first in offline mode on your netbook when you have internet & then transfer everything in the \Program Files\Steam\ folder across to the same location on your desktop - You might have some luck.
Make sure you have a backup of the Steam client installer to install steam on your desktop btw.

I am using 5gb prepaid internet data credit but I have steam running on both my netbook and desktop and have internet connection for both areas but not want to eat up my Prepaid data plan.

Does it matter if my netbook and desktop have different root harddrive disc? My desktop uses D:Drive and my netbook is using C:Drive??

The download won't be ready for another 3 1/2 hours so I will play around then and come with the result!

        • Does it matter if my netbook and desktop have different root harddrive disc? My desktop uses D:Drive and my netbook is using C:Drive??

          It should be fine.

        • EDIT: just went to check after 4 hours, 4gb out of 10gb done..

        • Thanks ace!, I've also moved my steam folder to a more empty drive. Merged both steam folders together and now they both have the same games, Will start darksiders after I take a shower. Tested and it boots up fine.

My first method was trying to copy the steamapps folder but that didn't work and tried to re download the whole thing.

  • Thanks guys, bought the bundle for $15. $2 each to THQ and Humble, and $11 to charity.

    • +1

THQ is the one that really needs the money right now as they are dangerously close to collapse.

Why do you think they're giving away so many of their games for so cheap? It's a desperate attempt to raise some funding before their debts are due.

      • Why are all these big gaming companies going broke? Is it because they are spending too much money on developing and producing the game?

        • +2

Pretty much. THQ has invested millions in a number of games recently that haven't sold anywhere near expectations. Another (non-THQ) example of high dev costs is Star Wars: The Old Republic. They spent ~$200 million on the development of that, and now it's going free to play because they couldn't maintain subscriptions.

        • +3

A big part of it is the uDraw tablet for Wii which was a spectacular failure and cost the company an insane amount of money.

  • +1

Paid below the current average and then someone online gave me a SR 3 key. Feeling happy about that I raised my offer a few bucks 100% going to THQ.

  • Do these codes associate with the email address or user name as my codes are invalid.?

  • +3

    good news

Titan Quest and Red Faction: Armageddon's mission pack, Path to War

    have been added :)

  • FYI if you want Titan Quest + DLC RF and purchased the bundle prior

    • If you still have your confirmation email from humble Bundle - click the link to revisit the page where you collected your KEYS.

As you will be able to now access Titan Quest + DLC for Red Faction keys.

    :-)

  • +3

It's been updated again. If you purchased the bundle already, you now get Warhammer 4000: Dawn of War Game of the Year Edition. If you haven't got the bundle yet, pay above the average to get this alongside all the other ones.

    • +2

How anyone can pass up on this deal is beyond me.

  • Wow, Sweet deal for a great cause!
