Beginner Digital Piano Recommendations - Budget $700

I'm keen on learning jazz piano at home.

Any recommendations for a digital piano and books, classes etc., I'm based in Brisbane

  • Budget? Digital vs traditional?

Need teh infos otherwise teh recommendations will be all over the place.

    • Digital

      • -1

        Reading comprehension FTW.

  • Try apps like Simply Piano or similar. They’re great to get into the routine. My son really improved.

Though during early stages you should consider getting a proper teacher so you don’t get into bad habits.

  • There's an app for that.

  • You'll need to allocate more if you want a brand new one. Tim Praskins recommends Casio CDP-S360BK but I'm team Yamaha so would go for a P-255.

  • Try and get an 88 key one and one that allows for a pedal

This one is a little above your budget but seems to be a decent deal for stand and stool etc as well

  • Any background in piano/music? Jazz is a bit of a leap for beginners, it assumes a certain baseline of musical theory.

Jazz Piano Fundamentals from Jeremy Siskind might be nice. I've seen The Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine recommended but it's VERY dry, and more of a reference book if anything. It does have almost anything you'd need though, sometimes taught in a weird order.

As per other comments, 88 keys and weighted as a baseline if you're somewhat serious, there's a few around that range, Yamha P-255 (newer version of P125/45), Roland fp-10, Korg B2, Casio Privia PX-S1100. Would recommend just going to a store and trying those out and picking whichever one you like tbh, people talk about Roland having heavier/more realistic key action but imo not a big deal. Those might be sitting slightly outside of your budget, but plenty of them on facebook marketplace.
