Is ASUS DSL-AC68U Compatible with nbn 100mbps Plans?

Home is currently on 50/20 Plan and running an old Telstra modem.

Have got a AC68U that I keep in another house as spare.

have been wanting to upgrade from 50/20 to 100/20 but afraid I have to pay for a new modem instead of using the one I have.

Can the 100/20 plan work on the ASUS DSL-AC68U?

  • Assuming you're on a FTTN/B plan and going up a speed tier, should work with either device.

I had a AC68U which had no issues handling 100/20.

  • I'll go check, but I dont think the DSL AC-68U has the required WAN port on the back… I remember when I changed form VDSL to FTTP/NBN I had to get a new router and basically just bought the non-DSL version of the same router…

Edit: Just checked and my old DSL-AC68U does NOT have a WAN port. I now have the RT-AX86U. Same form factor, but no DSL, but it has WAN. So, it depends on how you are connecting. Over the older DSL network, the 68U would work… on NBN, I dont think it will work.

  • If you are switching from fttn to fttp, you can turn DSL-AC68U to router only and use it. Under WAN menu Dual WAN tab, Enable Dual WAN - OFF and Primary WAN - Ethernet WAN then assign Port number as WAN port.

    • How do I know if I'm on FTTN or FTTP now?

Sorry not very tech savvy. All I know now is that I can only go with 50/20 Plan. Any 100Mbps plan requires the "free upgrade" from all providers.

I think I used to do that once with the DSL-AC68U in Malaysia when there's a seperate modem, so I had to turn my AC68U as router only.

Seems like ihfree says my current Telstra modem should work in the 100Mbps plan as well. I've moved from Telstra to Swoop for almost 6 months and I'm looking to move to a different plan now.
