Why are you defecting to an English newspaper? /s

      • Twas the 1st article that came up - the point was there are loads of reviews online

Don't trust the media reviews. Google's TOS for the reviewers forbade any negative comparisons:

This is fair but place that allow people to review items sometimes allow you to look at the comments

It is a good way to see what people are having issues with

Very true, I'd trust Ozbargain real users who have bought the phone with their own money, rather than a reviewer from say, The Guardian above, who has been incentivised to give it positive reviews.

          • @RedHab: Fair enough, ill note there are loads of Samsung/Apple/Google fan boys he will write fake reviews for an against other products

i mean if you asked about the Iphone 15 Pro you would have a war of comments on both sides why it is amazing and why it is a rip off

  • Fuyaa.

They are always quite decent and as you'd expect now since the p5. Won't open mine until I see what the 9 pro deal is but can hardly be bothered.

The 10 pro may be ok but getting more over priced evey year. Id probably want the 9 pro to be slightly bigger (like iPhone pro) although love the size of the pixel 8 for a budget but good phone.

    PS
9 pro is on the JB site with trade, $390 for pixel 8 128gb. No mention of gift vouchers and you'd have to follow through with credit card before you know what the bonus is.. wait to I'll 24/10.

I'm waiting for the 9 Pro too. So annoying. Hope it is released before I go overseas in November.

  • got mine today, came from pixel 6pro.. design looks good. seems pretty snappy so far. glass screen protector made the scanner not recognise, so taken that back off. otherwise feels like a pixel

    • Google the Usual tricks to improve that. It should be better you'd hope if it's a 'proper' secure fingerprint reader. The 4 and 6 were crap so it should be heaps better. Also change the animation speeds to 0.5 Snappy as (all pixels)

    • Give the glass screen protector time

On my S21+ with a glass screen protector the fingerprint scanner didn't work right after application, I had to wait 24hrs or so before trying again and voila.

      • thanks for the tip, as far as im aware they are using the same scanner as the S24, so it should work

        • You could try these tricks too (same as I have done for P7 and P8

          • Screen protector mode = OFF
          • Screen always on (lock screen , always show time and date) = OFF
          • Set up two lots of fingerprints of the same ones in different light conditions (ie. thumbs x2 and right index x2 and whatever else).
          • Don't let your hands get dry or use harsh detergents/hand wash too often.

Just making sure that you had also turned this on? Not sure if it actually helps but worth a try, or for anyone else reading this who might not realise the setting exists:

Settings > Display > Touch sensitivity > Screen Protector Mode

      Image

      • yes sir, that setting changed nothing and still didnt reg the finger print

this might seem obvious, but did you delete the fingerprint and add it again with the new screen protector installed?

    Battery life sounds le terrible'

Same as any smartphone you just got to tweak all the settings.

Had mine for two days now, really enjoying it.

For me the actual hardware is a huge step up from any previous pixel. Have my P8P with me and it feels almost toy like next to the P9P XL which feels very refined, weighty in your hand. Fingerprint sensor is also another obvious improvement, it's not ultrasonic and not optical.
