Not the cheapest it has been, so please go easy on me! Selling for the price listed in the title ($383.15), via Amazon UK, lowest ever was $349.96, average is $537.05 (as per Camel).

Going for $749 at JB, $749 at Bing Lee, $899 at Officeworks, et cetera - so I think this is a pretty great deal.

I personally can't say enough positive things about this SSD - it's not perfect, but for the size, weight, IP specs and speeds… 4TB for this price is a steal. Of course, the T9 is faster, but it is not dust/shock/water resistant to the same extent as the T7.

But be quick, it's a limited time offer (no coupon required, but seemingly with an allocated amount of stock for the deal).

I've personally loaded mine up (from a previous sale) with films + TV series, and can plug it into my Nvidia Shield TV Pro without issue. I can easily write a 60GB film onto this SSD at an insanely fast rate.

Enjoy!

Damn people down voted you 😔 cannot be nice

    • +4

Implying this is only worthy of a sympathy vote is not very nice to OP. Misleading people to disregard this with current pricing is not very nice to others.

Why everyone negging this? It’s a fair point no?
        Voting should be merits based
Everyone is salty these days or dumb lol

        • Likely due to it being a nonsense comment, just look below, people are up voting the deal saying it's a good price.

            So was I. That's the point…

Very good price, could go down the path of an NVME enclosure but for an out of the box solution this is very good.

I went and bought a Samsung X5 Thunderbolt SSD for $130 on eBay, opened it up, replaced the SSD with a 4TB module and it works like a charm. Still the best speeds out of any portable SSD possible.

    • +2

Those r sorta finicky tbh imo

      • My one has been performing amazingly with 0 issues and with zero additional setup, the only only caveat is that you can only use them on Thunderbolt 3/4/5 ports and not on any USB interface.

        • Where on eBay is that for $130 pls ??

    • Hi mate, the Samsung X5 Thunderbolt SSD don't seem to be available for sale anymore and it doesn't look Samsung even have a Thunderbolt compatible portable SSD drive any more. Do you know of any other portable SSD's that you can mod your own drive with?

      • +1

All Samsung T5/T7/T9s can be used on Thunderbolt Ports (USB-C) just limited to the speed of the port (ie. USB 3)

Sabrent has an enclosure on Amazon

  • I've got two of 2TB models - one for Time Machine backups and another for iOS + iPadOS backups. I'll hold out on a 4TB until BF and see what's available, but these are great drives.

Not a bad price. But cheapest it has been recorded on OZB (not the 4TB version) price per TB it's:

Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD: 1TB $87, 2TB $163 (Exp) (C&C Only / Delivery Stock: Sold Out) @ Bing Lee eBay

  • Still waiting for 1TB T7, even the non-Shield model, to go under $100 again :-(

  • Anyone know whether the rubber texture on the Shield is of the same sort that perishes after a few years and gets ultra sticky? Part of my T3 drive did that, and I much prefer the solid metal of the T5 and T7 drives

    • +1

I've got a couple that are a year or so old and haven't started to go icky yet, but they do mostly see indoor and bagged use.

    • It depends what you store on it. Certain type of movies will make it extra sticky ;)

Jokes aside, my 1 year old is fine so far but I think those plastics start to get sticky after a few more years. I don’t think this drive has been around that long to have been tested for this

I have a T7 shield (along with some standard T7s and some T5s) that I use for shooting to from a cinema camera and it wouldn't fit the SSD mount/holder that I had, so I just ripped the rubber casing off and it's nice and smooth and metal underneath, plus it fit into the mount. I didn't need the mild waterproofing anyway.

I will note that it's like a silver metal though, not a nice dark brushed colour or something. It's obviously not meant to be seen, but doesn't look bad.

      • Yeah, this. Also you could put tape or something over the silver if you wanted.

    • +2

The soft touch surface is actually a silicone sleeve that you can easily remove if you want. It’s silver anodised alu underneath.

gov should fine them for over profiting from us

Bought it for $348 in a previous deal earlier this year. Great SSD. This is still a very good price.

Same here, think I got it for around $352 earlier this year. It's performing flawlessly - more than fast enough for what I need it for (as mentioned, I use the 4TB purely for films/TV shows (some of which are 60GB Remux files), I also have a 1TB purely for backups for my Mac + iPhone).

I know that for playing films/TV shows, on e.g. my Nvidia Shield TV Pro, a standard HDD is very often fast enough, as in, the reading speed… but I just love being able to write films etc onto this SSD so quickly from my Mac. Plus you get the mini form factor etc. The very first T7 I bought, it really shocked me - just how small, portable, lightweight it is. Crazy. This little beast has travelled the world with me, even to places such as Ukraine, you can so easily slip it into somewhere super secure whilst on the go.

Would love to see a T9 in a "Shield" variant, 4TB, even if it costs ~$600 or more… I'd pay it (no doubt it would take me forever to actually pull the trigger haha) as I really need one for my photography + filmography + video editing, something that can read/write even faster than this, especially when I'm on the go and filming in high def, saving directly to the SSD.

But the T7 is no slouch, it does well in that area, too, and it reliably transfers at the advertised 1,050/1,000 MB/s. Strangely, the 1TB standard (non-Shield) T7 I have consistently fails to read/write at the advertised speeds. Anyway, speedier would be nice for that specific caseload… but for me it's a hobby, not work, so not really a high priority.

Anyway, that's another topic, in any event, enjoy your T7 👌🏻

I got the T7 4TB for my "travel storage device" but for my photo/video use at home were I wanted faster than the 1000MB/s - Note speedtesting on my MacBook Pro M3 I only get speeds around 870MB/s on the T7

So for photo/video use at home I also got myself an Acasis (TBU405ProM1) USB4 NVMe case (USD$90 delivered) along with the Lexar NM790 4TB NVMe deal that came up at the end of Jun ($300) - on my MacBook Pro M3 it speedtests at over 2800MB/s. I got the Acasis case rather than a bunch of cheaper and smaller ones I'd seen around because it definitely runs reasonably cool (even leaving it plugged in all the time)

        • Thank you! That's super helpful 👌🏻 I was planning, as per the comment, on eventually just getting a T9 for the "at home" work, but I'll have a look into any NVMe deals… I'm aware of the tech, having built my own PC (along with having my Mac) etc, but yeah, you're right, it probably does make much more sense. As in - you paid what, ~$135 AUD delivered for the case (approx) and then $300 AUD for the Lexar, so around $435 all up, and you're getting 2800MB/s, yet the T9 is slower than that (around 2000MB/s, from memory) and costs (usually) far more. So yes, thanks 🙏

          • @endlesseuphoria: Another thing to consider with the T9 as well - that 2000MB/s theoretical transfer rate relies on the fact it uses a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface - essentially two lanes of 10 Gbps operation to realise a theoretical 20Gbps data transfer rate

Note that most Mac's do not support this 20Gbps interface - they support 10Gbps or 40Gbps. So it's likely that T9 would only run as fast as the T7 on your Mac. You need to use a drive which supports a 40Gbps interface (TB3, TB4 or USB4) to get the faster speed

        • Nice!!!

Can the TBU405ProM1 accommodate nvme drives with heatsink??

Would love to know this pls.

          Thanks.

          • @Jvin: @Jvin - alas no (well you can insert the NVMe and it worked (I tried) but you can't put the lid on the case) - so I had to remove the heatsink from the Lexar NM790 I got (which in the end was trivially easy)

FYI If I was to do this again I'd possibly go for the cheaper Acasis case without the fan (I found I don't need to use the fan (it's only ever warm and never hot to the touch anyway) and it's not completely silent) - I havn't used it across summer tho so time will tell

            • @Remorhaz: Can you please link which Acasis case you got?

I'm new to the NVMe game. I ordered a Samsung 990 Pro 4TB to go with the Acasis 40Gbps. Would it offer sufficient cooling? I do a lot of 4K video editing.

              • @Hunter14: @Hunter14 - this is the one I got (NB: I ordered the variant With the Built in Fan)

                https://www.acasis.com/collections/acasis-ssd-enclosure/prod…

Even with the fan off I find it doesn't run hot but if you're concerned turn the fan on (button press) and it runs cool

NB: The unit comes with two sticky heat transfer pad things (two different thicknesses) - I used both (one on top of the other on top of the NVMe) to ensure the pad firmly presses against the case for good contact (which is what you want for heat dissipation)

    • Same (at the start of July) - I paid $348.07 to be exact

  • Yeah would be great to see a 2TB on sale again!

  • Bought one to replace my sandisk piece of shit from the last ozbargain deal, which wiped my data despite WD saying it's not affected by the bug.

    • Mine still works fine, almost 24/7 cloud server drive, restarted/shutdown few times.

      • Yeah, I saw that most people were fine. And I read somewhere that if you can fill the drive completely and it doesn't fail, then the drive is fine, so I did this initially.
Checked the WD site which said I don't have the bug, since it was manufactured after the firmware update.

And yet, twice now, it's erased it's self. First time I lost data / a novel project I was working on :(

I noticed mine was wiping it's self if I did large file copies, like 280gb sequential writes, which is in line with what other people were seeing (dumping uncompressed 4k video streams to it)

So I'd say, just make sure you have a backup if it's a cloud server drive (data more important than a hobby ml project lol)

Mine is on the way back to amazon anyway.

        • Ok, have not try copy 280gb or larger file, the largest I have tried was probably 40Gb VHD file. Nonetheless, still not comfortable with the drive to be honest, that's why used as nextcloud server disk. I have a backup instance in case the drive fail, and always have full copies synced on my desktop and laptop, doesn't matter if the server fails, I'll just fire up the backup instance and re-populate with copies from client machines.

how does the warranty work as this cones from UK.

  • You can get the non shield version 3.2 Gen 2 2TB for $228.01 Delivered from Amazon Germany for 50% off for anyone who's interested, I got one a few days ago.

    • But for 4TB it is $501.

      • I saw questions about 2TB like @Pidgey above. Ops listing has 2TB version option at $305.06. If you just want 2TB you can save $77.05 on Amazon Germany otherwise.

Awesome got me one :) Ty

  • Since the data I put in the portal disk is sensitive and need protective.
Will you use the Samsung own software for encryption or use Windows own bitlocker or other free encryptors?
    Thank you.
