eufy Homebase 3 Internal Hard Drive Recommendation

Hey all I’m looking for 500GB to 1TB internal solid state hard drive for my new Homebase3 to keep the recording for years.
Could you please recommend a good price point and recommend a decent SSD?

Samsung EVO 870 1TB is on sale at the moment for $145. Not sure if this is the best price option.
I would be happy with a much better price.

  • I know not directly what you asked for, but if you want to keep it for years you should really have a redundancy setup, perhaps going down the route of having a small NAS would work for you?

    • Isn't the Homebase simply a storage area for camera footage? Why would OP want to keep the footage for years?

      • Not sure, but it's what the OP asked.

        • +1

Where did OP ask for a NAS?

OP asked for a cheap SSD. You recommended a NAS with built-in redundancy, which would triple or quadruple the price at a minimum, increase complexity, all to provide a function that is typically not needed for home recording systems.

CCTV footage is typically useful if it's within a week or less. Loads of corporate environments have written policy that they'll only keep 90 days or thereabouts. Redundancy of multi-year footage is counterproductive.

@OP there was a deal on hear yesterday for a WD M.2 2230 2TB SSD for just over $100. Not sure if the Homebase takes M.2 though.

          • @rumblytangara: I didn't say OP asked for a NAS. I'm saying OP asked to keep the footage for years.

You asked "why would OP want to keep footage for years"

And OP said they want a SSD to keep the footage for years…

  • In terms of price, that's really expensive for a 1TB drive. Here's the general price range of SATA SSDs

I'd look at the MX500, for around $100 for a 1TB drive. It's a great drive, has been around forever, comes with a 5 year warranty and has great reliability. Not quite as well rated in terms of TBW as the 870, at the same time though you can get a 2TB version that has greater TBW than the 870 (thanks to more storage = more to write across) for $190.

Also buying in Australia would make warranty easier, dunno what an overseas amazon return would be like.

  • thats what i went with, be aware these are old stocks ( i found mine was mfd in 2021 on the seagate website), dont know how good they are with warranty , be aware homebase needs a 2.5 .
Seagate have a good reputation , so i rolled the dice

  • I have been using a 2TB Crucial MX500 2.5" SSD CT2000MX500SSD1 with no issues for the past 6months

  • Thanks guys. I’m not looking for NAS. I’ve been incorrect with seeking 1TB.
The homebase 3 comes with 16GB space with which I will have a month at least of footage.
    250-500GB should be good.

I need a good deal like Samsung Evo 870 read/write speed but cheaper options.

I think that even the lowest end, QLC cacheless SSD is going to keep up with a fair number of cameras. Bear in mind that spinning hard disks are still sold for camera recording usage- even a slow SSD will crap all over a hard disk for write speeds.

  • Okay. Do you guys recommend any 2.5” SSD hard drives which are on sale? I just think 1TB Samsung EVO for $146 is overkill for my needs.

  • I recently upgraded to a Homebase 3 about 2 months ago and threw in there an old SanDisk 128GB drive. Works perfectly well with 5 cameras and 1 doorbell and so far to date says i have 86% available.
From those stats it sounds like im chewing up about 8GB a month so should be around 96GB a year with a little left over. So 1TB would last me for like 10 years worth of footage hahah. Don't waste your money on a 1TB, you are better off getting a 250GB and then look for a 250GB external drive where you can archive that footage for redundancy. There is literally an option for that within the Homebase. But it only works for external storage though via USB.

  • Awesome thank you so much. I have exactly 7 cameras and one door bell. I’m now aiming for 250GB SSD.

Could you please find me a deal or recommend me a link?

Samsung and the list you provided has so many variants. I can pencil one and keep tracking for a good deal.

Do you think I’ll get 250GB for $50?

    • I reckon you could quite easily get a 250gb ssd and a 250gb usb thumb drive for around the $50 (each) mark, just use google or your usual go to computer store and check them out.

      • Mate this is $29 do you think it will work for my honebase3? Its not the brand listed by Eufy.

        • The list eufy have provided is just a recommendation not mandatory. Probably will work fine, i personally have never used that brand so i cant comment on them. Would be totally up to you what drive you want to use.

  • I’ve ordered the below. Someone in the review stated he also bought it for homebase3 and works very well.
