Lacron Grange Pool Pump

Pretty sure my pool pump has kicked the bucket, local pool shop wants to put in a "Lacron Grange" for $795 with a $195 install.

Having a look online, couldn't find a single review.

Anyone have one that can comment? Price seems fine, just looking at quality more than anything else

  • Whats the issue with your current pump? Has the pool shop checked it and confirmed it is dead?

    • Only just moved into the place, they are going to come out and check first and see if it can't be salvaged.

Current one is humming when first turned on, then goes silent but nothing run. Tried flushing it with water, cleaning out the basket, etc. No dice

      • If it is just humming then it could be either the starter capacitor (usually about $15 @ jaycar) or the pump is just seized - which could be caused by the empeller being jammed (unplug the power cord of the pump, take off the round cover thing, take out filter basket , and reach in feel for anything jamming) OR the motor could have seized from lack of use (or just seized - because sometime they do that and they are not frequently checked). There is a hole at the end of the pump (motor end) where you can insert a screw driver in the notch of the motor pin/axle and turn the pin/axle to free up the pump.

Have a google of "pool pump hums , doesnt start" and check out some youtube clips.

        Either seized or starter capacitor

The capacitor is very easy to replace (if it has one). Usually 4 screws and remove cover, then disconnect 3 cables on the capacitor.

What is the make and model of the pump?

        • Pool people aren't here until Monday so got some time. Ended up spending some time out there, couldn't find the screw part & convinced my model doesn't have one. Will look online for a manual though.

          Model is a silensor sls-300.

You've given me a great starting point, and really appreciate your time mate

          • @Aftos: no worries. i went through a similar thing with my pool pump and was like " how much is this going to cost me?!!" . did some googling and the jaycar 3 kms away had the right capacitor for $15 and I had my pump going in an hour.

here is a link to the jaycar capacitor for your pump

they do say 25uf is recommended but you can go over (up to 200% over is apparently)

yeah, your pump does not have the hole at the end.

this is an appropriate youtube clip showing your pump being disassembled.

            a good place to start.

            good luck with it.

  • Friend of mine used to work at pool service/ maintenance place.

He said the primary place they made their money was on equipment, so it’d be worth comparing the price they are offering to what you can source yourself online
