nbn ISP Recommendations

I have 50/20 on a grandfather plan, and they're jacking it to $80. It comes with a static IP which I do need.
If I'm paying that much, I may as well pay even more and go the 1000/50 as I have HFC, but my old provider wants $140 PM.

Looking at TPG for $105 but says no where I can find about IPv4.
Superloop want $99 +$5 for static IP then $114 all up after 6 months.
Future Broadband $130 for everything and I think it's meant to be business grade.

Any recommendations on a decent or warnings on a new provider.

Thanks.

    Are you really a grandfather?

    Actually static, or just sticky?
Options where cgnat can be disabled, IP is pretty sticky, and dynamic DNS options easy to setup for resolving any changes valid?
But if you need a dedicated allocated IP address I'd assume you'll be paying for it as an extra with any provider.

    • Was a sticky, but never changed for the life I've had it.
Not real keen on DDNS i'd rather a sticky or tunnel through with Cloudflare's proxy. It's never good to advertise your own IP.

I use Openvpn to logging my server. I did set up a load balancer through Cloudflare and Kemp, but the VPN is easier, faster and less to go wrong..

if you think a random ddns provider url is advertising your IP anymore than it being publically accessible already on the public ipv4 space, then..sure, i guess :/

Im with leaptel, CGNAT opt out, IP rarely changes, use DDNS but never check if it actually changes, use wireguard

    • Was interested in them myself but have just being reading some not great stuff on another ozbargain thread & Whirlpool

Leaptel will provide all you need

Also got the Swoop increase email & am looking to churn as the new "special" price of $80 is the same as standard price for other providers.

      looking to churn

There is no churning anymore, you will still be on the same NBN network…

  • I can vouch for the reliability of Future Broadband and their excellent local customer service but I can't see the $130 plan you mentioned. FBB has a 400/40 plan for $120, which I think is good value, and an Ultrafast plan (800Mbps+/40Mbps+) at $140, which I think is expensive relative to the competition. The service is rock-solid. We have had two outages in six years, one of which was an unplanned NBN outage.

    • I stuffed up, You're right @ $140

  • If there's an NBN outage, it doesn't matter which retailer you're with - they'll all go down.

I think what you need is one with backup 4G/5G or a separate satellite internet if cost isn't that much of a concern. That leaves Telstra, Optus, Vodafone (for business) NBN with 4G/5G backup. Or Starlink.
