man I wish they would do some extra status credits, I think I'm going to miss out on staying gold :(
I'm considering booking some random cheap flights to try and retain it lol

    • +6

They've had a triple SC offer, double SC offer, and offered 200 SC for certain credit cards already this year. If anything they need less status credit offers, feels like they're just giving them away!

      • I mean I'll take all the SC offers I can get I have no idea how i'm gonna keep silver after obtaining it this coming week…

      • Anyone get the triple status points yet?
I registered, qualified based on what the conditions said but still haven't seen them applied.
I sent an enquiry but have not had a reply from Velocity team.

        • Got my triple credits at the same time as the normal flight credits came through.

    • +4

Virgin Australia is pushing more "extra" status/loyalty/tier points than any other carrier in the world. From Double SC and even Triple SC promotions.

It gets to the point where you can say? Whats different when you are Platinum when everyone is Platinum?

    • Highly unlikely when they just had a double status credits offer last month and triple status not long before that. It'll be a few months away (end of year or early next) at best, until the next one.
They are offering too many status credits promos IMO as it's clogging up their lounges and devaluing the whole point of it to genuine frequent flyers.

  • Damn, booked a trip a few weeks ago for mid sept when they had double points but this would have been better

Wish REX was still operating. VA had horrendous service in SYD last Friday. Got an arvo text saying due to staff shortage expect delays. Got to airport, flight delayed 1 hr, then another 30 mins, then another 30 mins, then cancelled suddenly due to ‘bad weather’. Many left stranded at the airport, with no further updates, told to wait for text/email for an update. Text/email never came so then they told people to line up at the customer service desk. Waited another 30 mins at customer service desk to be only told they can’t do anything and to wait for text/email. LOL. When the text finally came, it was for a flight on Sunday morning, apparently no more flights on Friday or Saturday. Even though Qantas and Jetstar still operating.

    • What flight number out of interest? Easy to check exactly what happened online.

    • I had this bad experience with VA where my flight was cancelled 3 hrs before departure and I was at the airport.
Too bad that we have a duopoly.

      Good deal tho :)

    • Wow that’s petty bad. You managed to keep your cool after all that? 😀

I’ve not found VA too bad but I’m often with them during business peak times between a couple of major cities. Never have issues like you said though! Qantas have changed my flights here and there but usually 1hr or so delayed.

Edit: your original point about Rex, agree. I would have taken them for my business travel if they only flew during 7-9am / 5-8pm.

    • That is so bad! I would have lost it.

  • Are Economy Lite fares eligible for this offer?

  • Are you guys finding that Velocity is better than Qantas? Their marketplace has more variety and better gift cards unlike Qantas.

    • +3

Using pound on gift card is a pretty bad choice, whether it’s better on velocity than qantas… the value is still pretty low compared to other options you could get…

You do not want to use points to buy stuff at market place unless,
      1) You hate to fly
      2) Have tiny amount of points and unlikely to get more points in future

For an example, a trip to US from anywhere in Australia is only 60K velocity points + about $200 extra (taxes and other fees) in a full serviced airline. 60k points in the market place would have only given you about $300 worth stuff at best. $3,000 worth flight vs $300 worth item??

Obviously you got to be flexible with dates and availability is scarce but we're ozbargainers and love to dig a bargain, don't we?

      • Yeah, unless you’re a parent and need to travel during school holidays, then it’s all over Red rover. 😭

Thanks for the info though. I have lots of points but dunno what to do with them.

        • Well I'm a parent and went to US last year with my kids in December school holidays using velocity points. Most important thing is planning ahead and booking ahead.

          • @npnp: Oh, right. Might keep an eye out then. Can use velocity points with United i think.

Your username doesn’t have anything to do with BJT transistors does it? If not, ignore me. 🙂

            • +1

@GeneralSkunk: Yes, united. It's a full service airline, we liked it. (My username has got nothing to do with BJT, don't even know what that is).

    • +2

Don't ever use frequent flyer points on any airline marketplace (to buy goods), that's terrible value for points and always will be.
Always use them for flights & flight upgrades, for obvious reasons… that's their business :)

    • When i started flying business trips around, I did a quick comparison and found that Virgin are a bit better for accruing points and status than Qantas. Especially to get status upgrades and hold them. At least in the short haul legs I looked at. So i fly then when i can.

  • what is it with virgin lately offering all these extra points, there was one for singapore aswell, i booked it back in jan, and i fly during those times so will i get the points or i missed out because i booked it early like a normal person.

  • I was too hurry to book flights and didn't realise offer has to be activated first. I have activated the offer now, do you think they will still honour the offer? I spoke to velocity points rep and she reckons it will still be applied as long as bookings have been done within the eligible duration and also offer was activated within the deadline. Anyone's previous experience on a similar thing?

    • I've just done the same thing haha. I booked a flight for my 3yo daughter through the call centre, linked it to my redemption booking but then realised I havent activated the offer on her Velocity account😫. Oh well, hopefully it still shows up as it was activated just after the booking was made🤞

      • +1

I called the velocity help and they said it should be fine (as long as the activation date falls within the date criteria and booking was also done within the date criteria.) Apparently they don't have anyway to tell when the offer was activated (they can only check that it's activated or not). So it should be fine.
