Gee, Bay Beans. That takes me back a few years!

  • What's the flavour profile for this bean? The website offers nothing other than "it's excellent".

    • +1

I'd agree with that flavour profile.

    • +1

This was from another page of their website for what they say is the current release of that blend (Linky: https://www.baybeans.com.au/premium-reserve-coffee-beans.htm…)

This Premium Reserve is an expertly roasted blend of three single origin coffees from Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Papua New Guinea. It produces a cup of delicately balanced Cocoa, nutty malt, infused with sweet tropical fruits and honey-citrus flavours. Medium to full bodied pushing beautifully through milk and gentle enough as an espresso.

      Origins:

STRICTLY HIGH GROWN LA BASTILLA RFA, E.P.
      Country: Nicaragua

      Sustainable: Rainforest Alliance Certified
Classification: second Best RFA coffee in Nicaragua - Score 89.50
Bean Appearance: Clean, well sorted and graded, high quality finish
      Acidity: Mild, medium
      Body: Medium, balanced
      Flavour: Cocoa, nutty, malty
      Harvest Period: November to March

Description: Here is a good Nicaraguan bean that offers good body, clean flavours and balanced complexities. 'La Bastilla' is an exotic offer, which best suits single origin usage. This coffee produces a reliable cup of delicate balance and prominent flavour.

NEW GUINEA PREMIUM SMALL HOLDER COFFEE WESTERN HIGHLANDS (PSC) FTO
      Country: Papua New Guinea
      Acidity: Medium/bright
      Body: Medium
      Flavour: Sweet tropical fruits, honey-citrus
      Harvest Period: April to September

Description: Here is an intense highlands bean with the exotic characteristics so sought-after from New Guinea. Well processed and graded, producing consistent cup qualities. A highly smooth cup, with great personality. Vibrant and unique.

      COSTA RICA COLIBRI 'TARRAZU'
      Country: Costa Rica
Screen Size / Grade: SHB, SCR 17/18
      Acidity: Medium
      Body: Soft to Medium
      Flavour: Rich, Strong, Rounded
      Roast: Medium to Dark
      Available: November to June

Description: This is a high grade Costa Rica, which produces a rich strong infusion. Superb cup characteristics, with floral and honey flavours. Crisp clean and rounded with rich quality, suits single origin espresso, whilst making for a high grade blend enhancer.

      • To confirm: I don't know if it is actually the profile of the current offering; doesn't appear to have been updated in a while.

        • Thank you for finding this! If it is indeed the current offering, it sounds great. Some of the best beans I had came from Nicaragua and hopefully that will come through in this blend. I am giving it a go!

If it tastes like coffee, that's all that really matters to me lol. Can't tell the difference between the types.

  • I did forget about this deal.. incredible that it still exists

  • How does this compare with the Downtown blend from Inglewood? Just about to run out of the latter…

  • Been there, done that, regular and it is great coffee.

  • Just unboxed another 2 bags of beans that arrived promptly today - 2 day delivery - using this deal. These beans are good enough to make us really critical of coffee purchased at many cafes - their processes don't come close to what comes out of our breville grinder and bambino plus set up. Big thumbs up from me.

  • How does this compare to Airjo enterprise and lime blue m2m?

    • +1

I've just got mine yesterday and tried it. It's quite a bit on dark roast side, so you will taste a lot of sharp toasted bread flavour. I remember LB m2m being pretty mellow, so this bean is way more intense than that.
I have not had Airjo enterprise, but comparing to Sumatra, this one was more fruity and nutty - like amaretto with hint of orange - whereas I tasted zero fruit or citrus on Sumatra.
Overall I reckon it's a great deal for the price point.

  • ordered 2kg and want to try and compare. :)

Didn’t like them at all, reminds me of any supermarket coffee. Dark roasted, harsh flavours. Absolutely no information about the coffee origins. Do not recommend.
