  • Wonder if this is the same as the Bosch. Looks awfully similar.

  • Been eyeing the one from Leica but this one is tempting to get me by for the price…

    • The Leica DISTO X4? I was looking at that also in my short dive into the world of laser measures that I definitely did not need.

If I was a tradie, I could definitely see a use for it (though I have not seen any that used anything like this, the fanciest one I've seen used is a laser cross - everyone else, tape measure)

  • +/- 2mm not 0.2mm accuracy.

    • Thanks, updated it - I took it from the last post of this device. To be frank, I doubt you'd be able to replicate that high accuracy of measurement (shaky hands/beam angle not level etc.)

It was within 1cm for all measurements I verified by measurement tape though (with my imprecise handling of the tool)

I have owned the cheaper version for the past year without any discount.

So many times I have used it from measuring built in robe spaces, room dimensions, roof cavity wiring distances.

It does what it says on the box and would happily buy again.

    • I've owned it for about 5 hours (and used it for about 30 minutes) and I think my ability to estimate distances has greatly improved

I'm sure it's overconfidence but who cares :)

  • The MiLESEEY D9 Pro Laser Distance is $94.99 USD ($148~ AUD) for AliExpress Business users. This is the premium version with a metal body and P2P measurement.

    • How do you get access to AliExpress business? The price looks much higher when I search for it.

Their pricing is so odd, seems to vary a lot by site

      • I think you need to get verified as a business. I've received several notifications from AliEx about these cheaper promos that forward me to their business sign-up page.

Cheaper and better S6 on AliExpress.

      Appropriate uses of negative vote
      Cheaper price elsewhere

    • I cannot understand their pricing and product line. I looked into this briefly and concluded that this one is better than the S6 as it has slope measurements. The “X6” is more expensive but don’t see any benefits

That said admittedly you can do everything with an S6 which then arguably is the same as the D9 pro which has a lot of features that you can also replicate with simple trig, a phone and drawing on a wall

    • Thanks mate.
What's the difference between the two?

      • @jimojr I believe is saying there is cheaper S6 and better X5

it looks like you can get a short range S6 for about $16 which is probably good enough for most.

It doesn’t measure slope but you can get level with the spirit level.

Feel free to correct me, I looked into this area as I was speaking with a surveyor last Friday and they took me through all the fancy gear they have. I was like wouldn’t it be nice to be able to do similar measurements for cheap, now I’ve been measuring everything!

So S6 is better AND is on sale for cheaper at the moment?!?!?! Seems almost too good to be true!

        • I am impressed by this level of detail, how’d you find this/write this?

This makes me wish I bought the premium version, however I think people will be disappointed if they buy a S6 and it doesn’t have all these things which seem to be equivalent to a pro level Bosch

          Anyway, AliExpress is cheaper

          • @chid: I copied them from ChatGPT.

            • @jimojr: It shows. Confidently incorrect.

        • Thanks mate!

    • I see it for $7, but when I sign in, the discount goes away and it becomes $17. WTH!!!!

  • Never used one of these before and just wondering if it will work in the scenarios if I need to measure distance to the, say, tree across the road about 100m away?

    • +2

Yes, though I have no way to determine accuracy but it seems correct, did some palm tree distance measurements yesterday. It doesn’t work well in direct sunlight conditions (error which is better than providing a number) but appears to work well otherwise

      • did some palm tree distance measurements yesterday. It doesn’t work well in direct sunlight conditions

That’s why you should buy the S6 or ‎S7 Pro instead of the D5.
