COSTCO Victorian Opening and Closing

So as you may or may not know Ardeer Costco in Melbourne's West is Opening soon, and Costco Docklands is set to Close soon.

A mini bargain that I have noticed is that you can get a extra bonus few months (maybe up to 6) for free if you sign up online with the Ardeer Membership page HERE

This bargain is due to the Ardeer Opening taking longer than expected (estimates as far away as Feb 2025) and the membership of 1 year only officially starting from the stores official opening.

Meanwhile those poor folks at Costco Docklands will have their store closing around the same time it opens in Ardeer so their DOOM is delayed a bit longer, pray for them.

      Probably thanks to Labor’s taxes…

    • Thanks Albama

It was the first store in Australia and no longer meets the format they want. New store will include fuel which is part of Costco’s CVP

      • fuel which is part of Costco’s CVP

So when is the Ringwood store closing?

    • Because no one goes to Docklands.

      • There were people there yesterday.

          Could be paid actors.

  • Anything in writing to prove this to be true?

My GF is with Costco … And I was of the opinion - membership is tied to there national brand (not any particular store - hence can use membership nationally).

OP … The only part true - according to page you linked to …
Will be able to use membership elsewhere before store opens.

Even when going through T&C's … I see nothing even remotely what you are suggesting.

Also, when looking at membership options from that page …

"Membership fee is for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of enrolment of the primary cardholder".

In the page I linked to under the section: Skip the queue—sign up online now

"However, your official membership period won’t begin until Costco Ardeer opens. This way, Ardeer residents can make the most of the Costco experience in their home warehouse!"

I gathered this to say, membership period of 1 year wont begin until open day of Ardeer arrives, letting Ardeer residents have a full year of Ardeer costco. If you believe this to be an error tell me

      • Ok.
Didn't see that bit - as did't fully go through.

But I did thoughly go through T&C's page (weird they don't have it covered there).

        Thanks.

        • No problem, might be good to save the page as a PDF if they decide to delete that small section of page and not honour it, though from 3rd party stories they seem to be okay with honouring their words.

If it doesn’t begin until Ardeer opens, does that not mean the membership isn’t active and we can’t use it prior???

It means the official start of your membership only begins on open day, the other days come for free, they expected to open in a month or two. Probably not 5 or 6.

“If you purchase your membership now, you’ll be able to use your card in all warehouses Australia wide”

Visited docklands one a few times and it was easy to get around and pleasant. No shortage/wait on the taste testers. Downside was it's too far into the city for me to want to drive.

Visited the Moorabbin one couple weeks ago and it was a nightmare, bumper to bumper with the huge carts, people with NFI how to get around (they should really paint lanes) and the vultures would magically appear as soon as a sample tray was put out (hilarious). GPS also took me on a weird long route to get back on the M1.

Wish there was one further country (Gippsland).

    • There were plans this year for a officer/pakenham Costco but I think that got shutdown by the state government, still there may be hope soon as they still seem interested in the south east area.

      • That is a shame, Pakenham would be great. Close enough to entice LaTrobe Vallyians to join up.

There have also been rumours of one being in the Morwell Hub/Morwell Foodbank hub; but I think that was apart of the concept to attain funding/bids.

  • I've never been to Costco. The 10% discount for those with a child looks like a great bargain!

  • It is a pity about Docklands, it is my local one. You can get there on the free tram. It doesn’t have fuel and no way of incorporating fuel stations. Parking is fairly limited. I do wish they would give it a reprieve so they do have an inner city store. It was an interesting place to put it in the first place.

They are talking about a Costco store down Geelong way as well.

  • Perhaps just for people living in Ardeer, signed up on the page given and I gave Ardeer as my home store (although it will not be) and the expiry date is twelve months from joining.

Yeah implementation is fuzzy, some people are of the opinion you get it updated when you go to the store when it opens and you get it reset there at the time.
