Have reserved a hotel on booking.com and sent a screenshot with the better price to their team. The past couple of weeks they've promised a response in 24hrs but never replied, so I found and called their international number and they keep telling me different reasons why they can't match (latest is because the cancellation policy isn't the same - theirs is actually worse - and I don't care about it - just the price match). They are making this so hard. Is there an industry ombudsmen or some higher authority that I can complain to and get a resolution on this?

Don't use booking.com - use the cheaper provider.
Why give money to a company that you are not happy with dealing with.
Not to mention all the fake listings, they don't verify a lot of the properties are actually real… many reports of people getting ripped off by scammers with fake BnBs on Booking.com. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-19/travellers-scammed-fa…
Oh jees
God
Yeah most hotel's price match policies are BS in my experience. I had Hilton deny a price match/beat because the parking was free on the competitor's site and ~U$30 a night on theirs (as well as the nightly rate being much better with the competitor). They said terms were not the same therefore no price beat. Couple of emails back and forth obviously went nowhere.
Just book with the cheaper one.
price beat on hotel websites and hotel sites like booking.com are all BS marketing hype and they never follow through
ALL.com is just as bad
Thanks for the advice. I neglected to mention I also activated 10% cashback with the booking, so with the pricematch it would've been worth the effort. Even the booking.com phone reps told me to just cancel so the collective voices are clear now. Will have to keep an eye on when the unit is re-listed on the other site so no one else books it before me.
Remember that sometimes prices are cheaper without cashback offers (ie, not going through the cashback page).

Also please be aware with non reputable hotel booking sites as some are clearly scamming people.
Having to call their international number is a clear sign that they are not a registered Australian company. Therefore, you have no local recourse.
Price matching is not a legal right. Cancel booking and book with whoever is offering a better price.
