Dell just recently dropped the price for the G2724D from $529.10 to $399.30 and the extra 7% off down to $371.35 makes this the cheapest price since last year and 29.8% off total. Back in May it was $399 and $350.12 from Dell last year. The codes last till September 13, but Dell may put the monitor price back up earlier.

The stand out feature here is HDMI 2.1 with VRR, which means it supports variable refresh rate on the PS5 and Xbox. (And as far as I am aware, the G2724D is the cheapest option with HDMI VRR) It's also a great gaming monitor in general. As @CVonC points out in the comments, for those with a laptop that has a recent Nvidia GPU but only HDMI output, the monitor allows you to use variable refresh rate.

Rtings Review

I work for TechRadar AU and I have trawled the Dell website for monitors that are a good deal currently with the 7% off. The Dell S2722QC 27-Inch 4K USB-C Monitor for $351.93 is a great deal, and the 7% coupon discount worked on every consumer display I tried. So Gaming, S series and Alienware monitors. (But not P or E series, or Ultrasharp) I couldn’t find any other coupons that stack unfortunately!

Keep in mind that the coupon may not work with cashback – I can’t confirm either way but others have mentioned it before.

Any reason to get this or wait until the HP OMEN 27q 27-Inch IPS QHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor is at $270 again?

    • $319 currently with coupon

    • +2

HMDI 2.1 is the main advantage of the Dell G2724D.

It's definitely worth looking at other options if you are happy to wait, or HDMI 2.1 isn't a feature you need now, or expect to in the future.

      • +1

Worth pointing out that the HDMI 2.1 is particular useful if you have a modern 3000/4000 graphics card or want to game on your Xbox/PlayStation. Else use your DP.

i need a work monitor 27 or 32" with brilliant display and usb c, no gaming, videos
use one 2722QC. Need one more

        • +4

Get a second 2722QC IMO. Currently at an equal all time low using the 7% off code.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/858289

One thing - the 2722QC doesn't do daisy chaining, so you need a laptop / dock that can run both.

      • The HP also has HDMI 2.1 but it's pointless cos it doesn't even support HDMI Forum VRR.

        • Yeah - my understanding is HDMI 2.0 doesn't technically exist anymore as a standard (though HP list the OMEN 27q as HDMI 2.0) and it's all HDMI 2.1 with different feature support.

The Dell is still using TMDS (so limited bandwidth compared to HDMI 2.1 using FRL), thus the 144Hz refresh rate limit on HDMI. But it does HDMI VRR, which is what enables variable refresh rate with the PS5. And with recent Nvidia GPUs that only have HDMI output, such as on some laptops.

And as you say, no HDMI VRR on the HP. Which may not matter to many people.

    • You'll have to decide that for yourself. But the HP is better monitor. Although quality of HP depends on the monitor you receive and there's no guarantee the HP Omen 27 will go on sale any time soon. And you want to check out there reviews on chimolog (use chrome to translate them):

I was after a decent 34" curved but seems like Dell has upped their prices. Can anyone recommend any decent 34" curved for under $600? No gaming, just productivity purposes

  • +1

I'm not confident in Dell's products. Is this one better, or should I go for an LG monitor?

    • +1

I've had the previous OzB favourite Dell s2721dgf for 3 years and it's been great. I also use a second-hand ultrafine 24" 1080p panel for my secondary display and it's also pretty good.

While I wouldn't buy their laptops, I would gladly buy another monitor from them.

  • I’ve got 2 of these monitors as a dual setup for my gaming setup. I got them about a year ago when they were on sale here and haven’t had a problem with either of them yet. The 165hz was a really good upgrade from my 60hz monitor. But 165hz can only be used when using the DP. No issues so far tho!!

I’ve had an alert for this for a few months. After “round adjustment” and $10 rewards I paid just $360.35 delivered.

    Thanks TechRadar

  • What would be a good 2.0 speaker or soundbar to add to this?

    • +1

I like the Logitech G 980-001303 G560 LIGHTSYNC but its too expensive for what it is and is not the Ozbargain way.

If you can find the Edifier MR4 on sale they are a great buy. Available in black or white.
Here's what they look like with a 27" monitor

  • I am so tempted to replace my VA Samsung Odyssey monitor with Dell IPS…

    • correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the high-end Samsung VA panels competitive with IPS in response times?

      • For this same price range, I still prefer IPS. Higher end monitor - which I dont have usually better than entry / mid range VA monitor.

  • How does this compare to the LG GP850-B? I feel like i've seen it cheaper than this and it has one of the fastest actual GtG response times with a 98% DCIP3 colour gamut vs the 95% on this. They are both 400 nits.

    • Rtings has a handy side by side comparison mode.

      LG GP850-B vs Dell G2724D

They put the Dell ahead in colour but behind in response time. No HDMI VRR on the LG though, which may not matter for your use case if you use DisplayPort.

  • I hope these don't have poor backlight design like the S2722DC I have where several developed a halo effect. I have doubts about Dell's ultra thin bezels, in low cost monitors.

Any long term owners care to comment ?

  • Love my G3223Q

  • When's the Dell UltraSharp U4025QW 40" getting a decent sale?

They give you ~7% discount by just talking to the chat

It's so overpriced relative to what else on market, but they know that because it's the only 21:9 with 2160 vert pixels!

Samsung 57" so much better but I need some deskspace!

    • +1

The U4025QW 40" would be nice. I don't have any insight into Dell sales timing unfortunately – I just keep an eye on the prices (and mostly laptop prices).

I wonder if the coupon can be stacked with a discount from talking to someone on Chat. I will have to give that a try at some point.

      • Yeah good idea. My quote expired back in June but could ask for another one. A sub $2k price would be an instant buy really but beggars can't be choosers

  • I got this monitor from JB when it was $399 less $30 perks and paid with 10% discounted gift cards paid with 7.25% discounted visa cards. Main reason why I bought it is because it supports HDMI Forum VRR to connect to my laptop (3060 GTX only outputs via HDMI). Running it in "console mode" so g-sync works. HDR is shit as all reviews mention, so I've disabled that. Quite a bright monitor though.

    • Oooh yeah good use case example for a laptop with only an HDMI output. I will add that to deal info.

  • -1

    Would jb price match this?

    • Doubt it

exclusions apply for … coupon promotions

But no harm jumping on live chat and asking

  • +1

I believe this monitor does not have an audio out which is a problem for console users

    • +1

Yeah it would be nice if the G2724D had audio output.

An HDMI audio splitter is the usual solution if the console doesn't have a dedicated audio output. (Or a soundbar / amp with HDMI passthrough)

The PS5 supports audio out via USB, which can be used with USB speakers, a USB soundcard or USB Bluetooth transmitter.

  • +3

Messaged JB live chat to price match it ($371) and they didn't allow it cause its a coupon code, I emailed the contact us and got a reply they even beat the price for $362 LOL, I'll collect mine tomorrow morning

  • Set it up yesterday. Pairs well with Edifier G2000s. Had to get an hdmi audio extractor for my Switch.

Played CS2, still getting 120+ fps despite the increase from 1080p to 1440p. G-sync seems to be working well.

  • $369 @ JB again using $30 perks code.
