Arlo Pro 5 2K Wire-Free Spotlight Camera $109.99 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store/OnePass) @ Bunnings Warehouse (Now in Store Only)

440

Thought this was too good to be true as it is significantly cheaper than all other retailers. Picked up 3 cameras from the Thomastown VIC store (click and collect) with no issues. Excellent value cameras at this price and no need for base station. Currently in stock at several stores I searched in the north of Melbourne as well as Sydney.

Cheap, but tbh you're better of going with Eufy. At least there isn't an ongoing subscription required and not restricted to maximum 30 days recording storage. The subscription does add up over time.

For 2+ cameras, that will be $149.99 per year.

    • +10

Yeah if I had my time again I would go with a different brand to avoid the subscription.

      The cameras suck without subscription.

The activity zones and AI detection (to tell the difference between a person, vehicle and animal) are must haves for me.

Oh well, they'll all die one day and I will then buy new cameras that don't require the sub.

The options available now for cameras are way better than when I bought these a few years ago.

      • +1

The reolink argus 3 has this feature. No subcription needed.

      • +11

Got to say I liked the ai feature on some of my Eufy until we had an intruder at night and none of the cameras with AI recorded a thing even though he walked right in front of them. I discovered if you are wearing a hoodie it wasn’t identifying as human and didn’t record.

Had to turn that feature off ( or put up a sign asking trespassers to remove hoodies.)

        • +1

I think the sign might work

        • Apt username

        • That sucks. I get heaps of small animals in the yards, like possums, and definitely don't want all those alerts waking me up.

      • +1

What if they die one at a time, which is more likely? I am in the same boat and now can't be bothered swapping them out and just suck up the sub. I have been tempted a few times to go 24x7 wired setup but that would need me to wire up the place.

      @Lucille Bluth,

I'm not sure how you arrived at your total, but here's my breakdown.

You're basing your subscription calculation on 2 cameras at $150, but you're not mentioning that their website clearly states that the price remains the same ($156, not $150 according to my calculations) regardless of whether you have 2, 5, 10, 20 or more cameras.

I initially had 4 Arlo Ultras, and when I saw that the same camera mentioned above was on sale, I couldn't resist and bought 2 more.
So I decided to check their subscription pricing and was surprised when I saw the
For $13 a month for 6 cameras, I thought it was a great deal considering if ever there was a burglary (thieves destroying or taking the cameras) I would still have the footage on the cloud.

I also have 5 Eufy cameras (no subscriptions) and happy with them as is. But in the same circumstances above ( burglary) it would be useless without a subscription.

Now, I can add as many cameras as I want (I'm considering getting 4 more at this great price), and it still won’t cost me more than $13 a month for 10 cameras, at least for the time being. It's essentially unlimited.

For the sake of $13 a month, it’s a piece of mind for me.

My calculations are correct for +2. I didn't imply the cost increases the more cameras you have. There is either a subscription for 1 camera, or for more than 2.

$156, not $150 according to my calculations

You might want to flick the annual pricing toggle on instead of monthly. You'll save more.

I thought it was a great deal considering if ever there was a burglary (thieves destroying or taking the cameras) I would still have the footage on the cloud

Hide the Homebase for Eufy in your roof cavity, garage, behind the fridge, under the bed, basically not in plain sight. Save the $150 per year. There is a reason why there are a lot of deals on Eufy vs Arlo on OzBargain. 10 cameras having to get and down on ladders every 3 or so months to charge would get annoying fast, unless you also spent even more for solar panels. I'm cool charging mine once every 10 months. Might consider getting solars if my back ever gives in.

And if that is still an issue, Eufy now also offers a subscription 4K cloud backup option too. At least you have a choice of local and/or cloud backups, are not restricted to having to pay.

On a different note, am I reading that the cloud backup only records up to 2K according to the link I provided? There are two sections it contradicts on this. Eufycam can record and save at 4K.

      • You should get more and aim then at your other cameras to make sure nobody takes them. Cameras watching cameras all the way down.

        • The more cameras you have the more it looks like you have something worth stealing inside

      • I just pull the rtsp feed from my Eufy cameras and save them to to a local HDD. Then these snips are uploaded to a free cloud service I use (15gb free). No monthly subscriptions, and still have local and cloud backup. Been doing this for approx 5 years now, figure that has saved me around $800 in subscription fees.

    • Or Reolink, no paid monthly subscription required

    • Always consider the huge ecosystem of Xiaomi (maybe Tp-link). From integration to your smartPhone, smartWatch, revolutionary SU7 EV, & your smart home ecosystem - for great value for money ;)

    • eufy and Arlo, which one is the chinese company and which is the US listed company?

  • +1

Personally I don’t need the subscription apart from our doorbell. I also often find deals on the subscription fee so rarely pay full price. For me the Arlo system works well.

    • Without subscription how do you manage to remote access it?
Also never heard of any deals on subscription. Please share if you got any.
      Cheers

      • Same, any deals on subscription?

      • I can still love view my cameras inside the house so when I see motion I just login and see what’s going on. I subscribe to the doorbell and that’s it. The deals pop up randomly in the app and usually around 50-60% off for a few months or something. If you have a subscription they won’t pop up though. Understand these cameras may not be for everyone however for my needs and at this price they are worthwhile.

      • sometimes you can get promocode from arlo app direclty usually half price for 3 months not bad, but I do recommend eufy. I have 4 pro4 and one wireless doorbell. All are powered by solar panels and connected to an Arlo base for storage. Doorbell is usually down and not responsive. Easy to miss a call or take a long time to connect and postman already has gone. footprints in the base can be access but only main account and without shortcut so when I am out for a travel I still need to purchase the subscription.

        • This is true regarding the doorbell. I’ve found so far though that the pro 5 cameras connect a lot quicker. Possibly something to do with using other 2.4 and 5ghz bands.

      • Run a VPN sever to have access to local network and you get access to the doorbell as well

    • What’s in / excluded from Arlo subscriptions? How does that practically manifest?

  • +4

Parallels to cheap printers with expensive cartridges (subscriptions in this case). Eufy has proved great for me in avoiding the ongoing subscription cost of most other brands.

  • +9

Have both Eufy and Arlo camera systems running alongside without subscription and Eufys system is far better. I will one day get rid of the Arlo system.

    • +4

Same boat and agree, Arlo is garbage.

  • I got rid of my Arlo, switched to Unifi camera system.

  • +2

Which Eufy Wire-Free Camera do people recommend?

    • I'd like to know too. Which is the OzBargain quality/value for money option?

    • Any Eufy cam is better than Arlo imo, the different model refers to specs, and the solo range means you can go without a base but for those already have a base, just pick whatever discounted or preferred specs.

  • +2

We have a few Arlo cameras and a base station. No subscription. Footage is saved to the hub and the live feeds are accessible via the Arlo app and in the Google Home app. It’s been a set and forget system from the start.

    • +3

My arlo was set and it forgot. A remote update had apparently took out the base station. It need a manual intervention, which was fine except I was a thousand kms away and without any video surveillance for a couple of weeks.

Contacting support the canned response was only subscribers get access to support. Yet the outage was all over their forums.

Suffice to say on return the manual intervention was replacement with another brand.

      Avoid this company.

  • +5

    Imo avoid this brand
Nothing but bad experience for me. Then when looking inline its seems to be pretty common.

Eufy, is better imo. I have the basestation 2 with 3 cameras easy to add more.

  • +1

I have two of the Arlo essentials and hate the battery life. The subscription also used to be three different types, but they reduced it to two. They didn't tell me at all and just put me into one of them. I'm pretty sure that was illegal but I don't think it's based here so our law doesn't apply. I don't know with Eufy, but with Arlo, I can set the camera on the other side of the world. I set one at my parents' house which is a nice feature if you have cloud backup.

    • I'm pretty sure that was illegal but I don't think it's based here so our law doesn't apply.

If they were based here, what law would apply?

      • At least a few emails about their subscription criteria changes and if I don't like it then I can opt to cancel. None whatsoever and the only email I got was 1 email saying 2 months before that my subscription will get renewed automatically. I logged in before the deadline and found 2x of the new yearly subscriptions. 1 owed for the current and 1 for the next year, I have no idea how that can happen and I told them about it. One of their rep asked me for my mobile number and the best time to call to resolve this issue. I'm not interested in taking any call to resolve this, why do I need to spend my time taking their call when email should be more than enough to address this issue.

        • But what law would apply here that make the comment about your first issue illegal?

  • +1

This is a great price but I wouldn't buy unless you're already in the Arlo ecosystem. If I had my time again I'd have tried Eufy or a hardwired system.

  • -1

    For me, Arlo just works.

I've never tried Eufy, but I have run a Reolink and Arlo side by side and Arlo wins hands down. The rich notifications are brilliant, and reliable and the battery lasts for ages and I've had a system running for about 7 years with very little issues.

  • eufy and Arlo, which one is the chinese company and which is the US listed company?

    • Arlo is part of netgear which is owned by USA.

  • +1

    Price showing $327.

    • Now $184, seems around the going rate.

  • Pricing error?

  • +1

Link not working anymore, looks like the party is over

  • Does anyone know if I am using a base station (with USB local storage), can I link the Arlo 5 camera to the dashboard and have the videos recorded locally?
It seems they are forcing me to upgrade the apps, which I want to avoid. Thanks in advance!
