Who Is Able to Buy a Boost Sim?

This has been driving me up the wall. The last time I was able to buy a boost sim was in May, and only one at that. After countless attempts including using nicknames, 'accidentally' putting 'typos' in date of birth and address, changing mobile number and payment card, and trying different devices, browsers and networks, I am just about done with this. (For what it's worth, I currently have one active yearly plan and four expired services under my boost id. And ever since I knew of cashback deals, I have probably bought just over ten in total.)

I went on the boost chat and these are the rep's exact words: "a huge volume of customers are trying to purchase the same sim card with the Boost discount offer causing a huge traffic and delay in the purchase of the offer". After a little more arm twisting, he said I should just try again the next day and contact them if anything further happens (which I sadly anticipate… I have been trying ever since the boost cashback deal came back.)

So I thought I'd make a last ditch poll. My question to you all: Who is able to buy a boost sim? (Or what are your experiences with the boost website?)

Never had any problems - I've only ever bought a couple of times.

A little 'fudging' allowed it to go through eventually. I buy a few here and there.

No issues buying Boost SIMs online, but I went into JB last week twice trying to sign up to a Telstra postpaid plan and their system flat out refused to accept any credit or debit card gave them. Tried 4 cards from 4 separate banks on 2 separate days.

I've got something wrong with my Telstra ID, but the front line support have no idea how to fix it.

Ended up getting my wife to put it in her name.

I've purchased 40+ Boost SIMs over the past couple of years, most recent would be 2 months ago.

    • something wrong with my Telstra ID

  • Why don't u pick one up from ebay?
Or are you getting the short term ones?

Having bought hundreds of sims over the years my account eventually got flagged - a boost rep straight up told me my account was flagged for fraud - which lead to my purchasing only able to go through with severe workarounds. Too much work to make it make the profit as worthwhile as before.

I also got my online activations flagged which was the big killer as I can only activate sims through online chat. Eventually my purchasing flag got dropped although I will still get an error if I buy too many in quick succession. It's still not worth my time buying more than a handful anyway as my activation flag has never been dropped.

    • hmm how to check and confirm flag on account LoL

    • just the thought that taking up their promotional offers is considered fraud. insane.
pre-paid is usually a 28-30 day contract. after that it's all open.

  • Who is able to buy a boost sim?

You need to be over 18

  • If you abuse you will get caught

  • Let me guess, crappy internet that probably times out due to packet loss?

  • Probably only purchased about 5 for profit sims and my telstra id would never let me buy anymore. I moved to telstra a couple of month ago after 3 months off boost. Had to go into a store to purchase a sim and the staff had issues activating it for me until they "fixed" something up. Am yet to try another purchase online since going instore.

  • This seems to be a typical boost problem, unable to buy SIM cards online, when a promotion is on… one would think they would have sorted this out after the first few times customers have had to call to get the promotion via a real person on the phone. I do suspect in your case tho, that a red flag has been raised in your instance, that 1 person can have too many new SIMs under their name / address

Personally would not even consider buying boost sim living regionally the service is hopeless

  • Roaming packs, waste of money they do not work.
Anti Support from the Phillipines as useless as can be.

    Truly HELL !!

  • No issues purchasing but unable to activate any sims without live chat now. Trying to activate via website just throws an oops something went wrong error.

  • Slight hijack but anybody experiencing problems using boost sims in wifi routers?

I have a G84 that has no issues using taking my aldimobile sim and/or my boost sim.
However also have a Netgear AirCard AC790S that only takes my aldimobile sim. With boost, it only ever shows 3G/H with an error about data not connected.

I thought as both use the telstra wholesale network it should not be band issues, but might be a bit naive here.

Maybe try checking the APN settings.
Could be stuck on the ALDI settings mdata.net.au
if it is, change to telstra.wap or telstra.internet

      • Sorry for belated, just wanted to say thanks for this as it was the ticket. It was weirdly stuck on an old bigpond apn (mildly surprised it worked with aldimobile). Changing to telstra.internet sorted me!
