SCA Garden Hose Brass Connector - 12mm $2 ($0 C&C/ in-Store Only) @ Supercheap Auto

730

Just picked up a couple of these and they fit pretty well to a standard garden hose, a bunnings spray gun and to a tap fitting. The outer main parts are brass but there is a inner nylon part which is a ring with legs/teeth that pushes the hose into the brass, but at $2 I'm willing to take a punt. Seemed to be plenty of stores with stock nationwide.

    Where?

    • Supercheap Auto, fixed the title.

      Exactly.
Most stores have NO STOCK or maybe just one if you find a store with any stock..
And you'd probably get there to find that single one wasnt there after all.
Besides you'd want at least a pair for a hose.

  • Good job Supercheap, your 1 shitty picture shows a bronze hose related object of some kind.

    • The title and description isn't enough?

What else could a 1/2" brass hose connector for 12mm hose fittings be? Genuine question, I might be missing the obvious.

      • It says nothing about what's on each end. Does it connect 2 pieces of hose? Or is it bare hose to female quick connect? Or is it 2 female quick connects? Or is it something else entirely I haven't seen before because the picture doesn't show what's on either end at all. I'm not a gardener, I only know these fittings by sight.

Its a female connector. One end goes onto the hose pipe, the other end accepts a male plug ie, your standard hose nozzles.

Its a quick connect, so you can pull the hose nozzle off and it will stop the water flowing until you plug in the next attachment (ie no need to turn off the water when swapping hose attachments).

The only thing I'll say about these brass connectors is the nylon o-ring ends up being the weak link - it will break after some time.

          • @joshk: I bought a bag of orings from a hydraulic store for this. Just replace the orings periodically rather than the whole connector now.

      • Being brass alone is not a guarantee of quality.

The hose connectors that have the 3 ball bearing locking mechanisms are great. The ones that have the three plastic triangle/clips are garbage.

I can't tell from the photo if this is garbage or gold.

They also eat into the plastics connectors so use ball bearing brass female quick connectors with brass male joins.

You'll be really disappointed with the next deal up, a picture of a box with dividers and a belt used to slot tools in. Whatever could this box be used for?

Can get these for the same price at most dollar shops

    • Not brass

brass ones are usually cheaper than the good plastic ones

Thanks OP, just bought 2 for home ✌🏻

I too picked up a few. No issues in terms of quality.

  • 👍 O.P

  • These always seem to be blocked whenever I go to use them. Weirdly works with a head connected, but take that off and try the hose with this on the end and nothing. Clear it, try use it a month later, same thing. (Brass heads of this design in general, not specifically from SCA)

Some connectors have a control valve that stops flow when nozzle is disconnected.

    • +2

There's a safety valve inside that stops the water if the quick connector pop off. This usually happens with some under sized plastic male fitting.

  • Pointless with the nylon internals. Why did they bother with a brass outer…pretending to be something it's not.. I've reached the age where I can't 'do' crap hose connectors any more!
    Pass.

    • Agreed brass ones like this are the worst. Been gardening professionally for years now and these ones are always the shit ones.

        Which ones do you recommend?
        Also any recommendations for hoses?
