Printer for MacBook Air M1

Hi, looking for a cheap printer compatible with an Apple Mac Air M1 laptop 2021.

Only use occasionally to print out attachments to emails. Haven't had my own personal printer for years so not sure what is best now to suit my laptop. The cheapest and easiest to use the better.

Any printer with Airprint is fine.

  • any printer with a USB port or wifi?

No one uses USB to print anymore, except maybe jv.

Get any HP / Brother / Canon printer. Laser for balck and white print-outs or InkJet for colour print-outs.

Low-end mono laser at Officeworks $139; Brother toner is cheaper than HP so that would tip the scales for me

  • On the rare occasion I need a printer, I have a basic brother printer. Works fine with my MBA via USB.

    Brother 1210W

Don't get any brand other than Brother. They all have bad reputations now with dodgy drm practices and bloated drivers and requiring accounts.

I got the most basic model laser printer for $20 on marketplace and I love it! USB only or there are WiFi models. Generic toner is $15 and lasts for ages.

    • I bought a Brother L2350DW this year. The toner that it came with only gave me 320 pages (700 claimed), and the printer has a habit of dropping off the network (no response to ping but buttons and menu still work). Despite this, I'd still buy again because the price was right and it otherwise does a great job.

Just make sure that you turn off automatic updates - just in case

  • I’ve gone through 3 brother monolaser printers and couldn’t fault them.
HL-L2375DW or similar model. Make sure it has the duplex printing as there was an older one which didn’t.

Why 3 you might ask? Because sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a new machine than replace the drum. I’ve recently found cartridge mate and have replaced the drum with a generic one that’s going strong.

  • I agree with others. Think carefully about whether you really need colour as that puts you into the world of either inkjet printers or colour lasers. From my experience, having owned around 5 inkjet printers, they are more trouble than they are worth. Ive never owned a colour laser printer

Two years ago I decided to go laser mono printing. It has been great. I bought a brother L2750DW. It hasn't missed a beat. Much more reliable and easy to use.

If you go laser mono then consider getting: AirPrint (pretty standard now), dual sided printing, and dual sided scanning.
