They haven't been a thing since rona. Supply chains got screwy, and they didn't want to take on the risk. Bunch of people who thought it was a legal right got surprised to learn it was always voluntary.

Yes, they got rid of it because of Corona as did Coles. But Coles brought it back pretty quickly and Woolworths did not.

Coles is much better shopping experience than Woolies these days.
And those Metro stores are absolutely useless.

Whoever in Woolleis management came up with the Metro concept should be sacked!

Disagree. I hate those exit gates at Coles.
They are useless other than blocking everyone.
I saw a theft left with two full bags from the entrance the other day.
And there was no staff to stop him.

My local Coles and WW are just next door to each other.
I always walk through every section at Coles first and compare the price or size or freshness with WW,
then shop at both stores to get the best price.
The gates do not auto-open when I am not buying any thing.

This, got rid of them early on during the rona, especially after half the population bought and the toilet paper and then tried to return it.

    Go to Coles

The days of Woolies having that personal touch are long gone. The Australia you knew as a kid is gone. They don't even put that big framed photo of the store manager at the front anymore, you don't need to know because they don't want to talk to you.

      Wow, that's a memory I didn't even know I had!

    What reasons are they giving?

None, they know you will be back regardless.

In most cases it will be on sale in a few weeks time at half price.

The specials are the same and often at same price.

Half Price Blackmore's, Swiss, Unilever products, Kelloggs. Bulla, Nestle, Simplot plus Coca Cola, Pepsi, Cadbury and so on.

Save the planet, save the raincheck….

There are some that rarely on half price.

      • Use Doordash 50% discount code with new account, new phone number from cashback deal and different email.

        Or
Get $20 Uber Eats referral from other Ozb post. Register new account with different device (never use Uber Eats), new phone number from cashback deal and different email.

I looked at the uber eats 50% off deal a few months back. By the time you paid all the inflated prices plus delivery/service charge, you were barely 10-15% off jsut going in store. I mean a saving is a saving but most of the delivery services jack up prices to the point where it negates any deal they offer.

          • @hazzad: Recently I used the Uber Eats $20 referral code for Coles shopping. I paid nothing (total cost was under $20) :)

It's not 10-15% off for me, more like >30% off for me. Maybe nearby Coles is too far from your location? The trick is new account with new email and new phone number. So, get free delivery fee but still get service fee. Use 2x 50% discount code from Doordash for new account that is usually informed in Ozb.

            • @neoleo: Does Uber Eats just require a new phone number and email addie to be considered a new user? So no new device registration required (which is the killer with some apps, such as GYG)?

              • +1

@InfinityandBeyond: From other comments, maybe similar with GYG. Need a different device. If you have an unused/old android phone, try to reset the phone and try the Uber Eats and GYG …

Woolworths stopped issuing them during Covid sighting supply chain issues but even though that problem disappeared many, many years ago they just never brought them back. I have enquired many times and it looks like they have no intention of ever bringing them back.

Seems to me to be another instance of putting profit over it's customers. I find it extremely frustrating.
Luckily Coles still do issue them so they often get my business for this reason.

I thought they were obligated to have sufficient advertised sale stock and issues rainchecks if they don't but clearly they are not breaking any regulatory rules or they would not be continuing to not issue them.
With all the controversy over supermarket profits you would think they would want to do things like this to give good customer service and promote loyalty but clearly the bottom line means more to the decision makers.

I wonder if we could start a petition.

It's illegal to advertise a promotion that you have no intention of fulfilling. But a customer going in 3 days into the promo and finding one variety of the product is out of stock at their location probably wouldn't breach that.

      • Thanks for that clarification @smalltime0.

  • Unfortunately we don't have Coles within 80 kms!

WW is like another Qantas, who had taken their customer for granted providing Shxxt services for the exorbitant price. Try to return the item to them and see how they refuse.

Try to find someone on the aisle to help you and see how they walk away when you make a request.

Try to ask for a price check for the wrong scan price and see they don't honor their price display policy citing not applicable policy or restricted to item value below $ 5.

Try to keep their milk and bread up to the use-by date and see that they get moulded or milk get spoiled before the use-by date, either they are asking the supply chain to place very long expiry date.

With this policy behaviour I have move my shopping to either IGA or small grocers nearby and support their service that they provide.

  • Because they are Tight A***s.

Coles and Flybuys destroy WW and EW.

Make the switch and never go back.
