My god that product is bad value.

To build it yourself with approx price/brands:

    • 25W Charger - ~ $20 (Samsung)
    • Cable ~ $7 (Baseus 1M)
    • 10K powerbank ~ $25 (INIU)
    • Travel Adapters ~$9/$26 for 3 (Korjo Multi Kit)

~$78 and way more versatile. You can swap out components or look at deals to customise or save money.

I do agree with you in regards to value prospect, but I think this product is just an amalgamation of those in one. So if you're travelling, you're only bringing one cable and one charging brick (with the one adapter needed for the region). There's also the Branded tax (Belkin and other retail brand charge extra for being well 'known', not that its actually worth anything.

Brand name is the only saving grace, and thats a big if, for some, because Belkin (while quite high end now) burnt a lot of people back in the iPod days with audio cable quality.

If you're OK with a reputable 'chinese brand'; this is worlds better value.

        • Agreed, I'm actually fine with Heymix, just have one spare charger from them because it was cheap.
I'm in the market for one like this though,
Anyone here have this particular model and had no issues with it?

        • +2

I wouldn't call Heymix reputable. It's easy enough to find feedback from users and make up your own mind.

          Here's a power board teardown: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12996125/redir

And a copy and paste of my comment last time it was posted:

This is a must read before considering purchase.

User reviews on Amazon are largely meaningless.

They are basically "I plugged things in and they got power."

Things may work with them, however, there's no indication of what happens if there is a surge, the board is overloaded, if it's wired correctly.

The power board on the linked deal has a decent score of 4.5 but has reviews that suggest it is wired wrong 2 years after that deal was posted. There are also a few reviews mentioning it falling apart. Heymix must know about these issues yet there are no signs of any action being taken.

          • @ihfree: Taking into account the metric of how many more times someone with issues will complain, than someone without issues will praise; their overall brand rating speaks for itself overall IMO. fakespot isn't detecting many bot votes.

Powerboards are a shitshow in most brands. Even the cheap ones from Bunnings and Kmart are horrid.
Thats not to excuse Heymix at all; but more to point out that I wouldn't judge a large scale importer, who just relabels (such as heymix), on some random factory screwing up a powerboard.

If they were a manufacturer; I'd be singing a VERY different tune.

            With all that said;
if Heymix doesn't do it for you, there are dozens of importers selling this powerbank, including generic unbranded ones, so you can choose your brand at your will.
Alibaba sellers will even put your own name on if you'd prefer that.

            • @MasterScythe: In general, you don't buy a power board from an Australian retailer only to find missing features. Heymix has to know about issues with some of their products but it doesn't stop them selling them.

Of more concern is the way that Heymix products fail. Here's an example - the bottom of the charger fell off exposing live wires.

You can pick any more reputable brand, including actual reputable Chinese brands, and you won't see such issues. Other users point to issues for larger brands that we know of because they had recalls. You wouldn't see that for many cheapo rebrands.

I wouldn't judge a large scale importer, who just relabels (such as heymix), on some random factory screwing up a powerboard.

They put their brand on something, they should be judged on it. If they don't do any vetting, testing or even respond to issues then their brand is meaningless. I wouldn't personally buy them, but, other brands do testing, make sure they're getting decent batches and inform customers when there are issues.

As you say, everyone is free to make decisions and will have different tolerances.

That sentence is a good example of different expectations from different people; neither good nor bad, just, personal :)

To me, an importers brand is a 'guarantee' that the product has come from the same factory as their previous sales; so I can reliably look at independant reviews\testing on a per-product basis, and make a decision.
I don't see chinese brand names as any sort of quality guide, but as an indicator of where the product is coming from.

To be completely honest, there's not even a Western brand who I just see the brand name and assume "It has to be good, it's XYZ brand!" anymore either…. Even 'locally' I look for reviews or self-assess on a per-product basis these days.

As such, I personally don't agree with:

They put their brand on something, they should be judged on it.

When dealing with an importer I expect stable importing, not manufacturing control.

You're not wrong at all, we just expect different things from a chinese dropship brand :)

AFAIK, that's not how Heymix works - they're slapping their brand on any number of products from different OEMs. There are also different sellers of the brand who appear to have different models available.

  • Also, this is available elsewhere cheaper(checked metro shipping) -
