  • OOS already.

I can still add to cart, maybe not available/doesn't ship to your location?

      • I think you're right, shows stock in private tab.

Is this good for security cameras?

    • +1

I use this model for my POE cameras, works fine.

    • I've also got one of these running my cameras. A single Ethernet to this on the other side of the house, then 3 cameras running off it flawlessly and a spare port in case I want to install an extra down the track.

      • Is there a limit to consider e.g) whether you can run 5x 4k cameras or is it limited to 5x 2k cameras

        • POE switches have a rated power output. And POE devices have a rated power input. You need to use these numbers to determine what you're asking.

        • For Data: No, this is a gigabit switch, it will easily handle 5 cameras.

For PoE: You need to check what the cameras need and what PoE protocols they support. For example I've got some Duhau DH-IPC-HDW3666EMP-S-AUS cameras and my switch is telling me it uses ~3.7W, varies a bit.

The spec page for the camera claims more then that (Basic: 4.3 W (12 VDC); 4.9 W (PoE)). I'm assuming that would be the upper end of their power requirements as I'm told a good engineer is always a little conservative at least on paper anyway.

This switch supports 802.3af/at so should support just about any PoE camera and depending on power consumption it should support 4 cameras too, just check the specs on the camera to be sure.

          • @Hank Scorpion: Thank you!! This has been super helpful. Sorry i am all new to this but will I be able to attach an external hdd with various makes and models of security cameras to this switch for recording? Or it has to be the same make and model

  • Wait, this is a bit confusing. Looked up this switch. This is a 5x 1 Gbps PoE switch. The switching capacity of the circuitry internally allows up to 10 Gbps, but talk about weird marketing - if I understand this concept right, that is 5 Gbps in surplus capacity that the switch cannot physically tap into. Please let me know otherwise if I am misinterpreting this?

Duplex so the switching plane needs 10Gbps.

    • +2

5 gigabit upload, 5 gigabit download simultaneously = 10 gigabit switching capacity

  • +1

Is this suitable for POE access points? The U6 series in particular, or better off going with Ubiquiti switch?

    • +1

It is fine I've used a few exactly the same for my u6LR and u6 pro. If you get one of the new u7 ones some require the 802.3bt standard though and this only supports af/at

    • For most APs, PoE+ is fine. For high end ones, you might need more power.

The PoE requirements of each AP will be mentioned under the product spec sheets.

Amazon one has PoE+ (Power Over Ethernet).

Excellent deal for a POE switch. Extra 10% off if you buy 2 (which I did).

Shipping not for 4 weeks though.

    • +1

      Nice - I grabbed 2 for $63 also!

    • Not sure why it says shipping not for four weeks, mine is arriving today.

    Only gigabit? How quaint.

  • Any tips on a similar (or bigger) rack mountable one?

    • Different model, Amazon one has PoE+ (Power Over Ethernet).

      • thanks! missed that part

      • Wow, and an AI blurb that doesn't make any sense.

This stylish TP-LINK 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch streamlines your network with its five high-speed Ethernet ports. The LS105G switch boasts a fast 2000 MB/s data transfer speed to maximize network performance. Its compact size and sleek blue design make it an ideal addition to any desktop or workstation.

That's faster than a ten gig switch, all for $35. Sign me up.

  • Great price, I bought the unit a little while back for my POE cameras and they work great

  • Also 10% off if you buy 2x, making it $31.50 each delivered.

  • I bought two for the 10% off plus I clicked through the Topcashback so hopefully extra $5 off over $40 :)

  • Am I correct in understanding that I can power this from another Poe device?

    • Its own power adapter provides 1.31A which is more than any POE can provide I believe, so I don’t think so. I’m no expert though!

      • What's the point of the extend mode then?

        • Powering a PoE switch via PoE is possible, like with some Ubiquiti switches, but there's no mention that this switch supports it. Cat6 cable is rated up to ~100m, extend mode seems to suggest you can extend your cable length up to 250m which is significant, no idea how it achieves that, possibly by overvolting to compensate for voltage drop?? There's a physical switch on the back of the unit that engages extend mode for ports 1-2.

          • @TheKLocker: I think I read that you can only have 10/100 speeds over this extended length too which is not surprising

    Back in stock again.

  • I added 2 x the 5-port and got $7 promotional discount applied, so a total of $63 instead of $70. Doesn't seem to say why this has been applied, but I'm not arguing.

    • Part of 'Buy 2, save 10%' Promo.

      • Cheers! The 8-port does not appear to be a part of that promo then I suppose. No further discount applied. But the 10-port does also get the 10% off for 2. Nice.
