That “alert” sound haunts my dreams

  • +1

    How is this on switch?

    • +5

720p (although all versions are the same) but only runs at 30 FPS rather than 60 in MGS2 and MGS3 (which is a bit rubbish for MGS2 since the PS2 and Vita versions hit 60 FPS) and was a bit rough performance at launch, not sure if they improved it

      • I wouldn't be surprised if this is just running on top of an emulation layer like most other Konami games, which, on the switch, would be around 50fps.

  • +1

alot of vita games are coming to switch :D

  • +2

Are all the games on the cartridge or is it DLC?

5.0 out of 5 stars What's actually on the cartridge? Read below.

This game collection is the most utterly confusing mess for any physical Switch game to date. Probably the worst collection in terms of preservation and for gamers who buy physical media. Konami is extremely CHEAP and don't care about quality physical products. What's on the Cartridge?

      On cart:
      - Metal Gear (MSX2)
      - Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX2)
      - Metal Gear (NES/Famicom) *Located in Bonus Content
      - Snake's Revenge (NES) *Located in Bonus Content

      Not on cart:
      - Metal Gear Solid (includes VR Missions)
      - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
      - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
      - Digital Soundtrack *Located in Bonus Content
      - Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 Digital Graphic Novels (They are videos and must be downloaded from eShop) *Located in Bonus Content

I gave it a rating of 5 stars for the games because they are pretty solid (pun intended). I'd give it negative stars for the physical/collecting aspect of it though (passing solids). It's a shame they didn't put any of the games that everyone wanted on the cartridge. The real meat and potatoes of the collection. For Metal Gear Solid, I recommend turning off the filter in the options because it's really blurry with it on. Other than that, the games play fine. I didn't have any issues with framerate.

        passing solids

And here I thought passing solids was normally considered healthy :P

Guess Konami looked at cartridge size prices and said we want smaller!

        128GB Nar… We want 128kb

I would have atleast expected MGS1 on there also

        • A 128GB Switch catridge would probably double the price of the game.

          • @AustriaBargain: Nintendo don’t even make them. Believe 64GB was mentioned but I think the max to be used so far is 32GB.

They could split the games across two cartridges I guess, but that probably makes more sense as a Limited Run Games type release where collectors are more willing to pay more.

            • @Smigit: Wonder if Switch 2 will use the same cart shape and just keep making them bigger.

              • @AustriaBargain: I sure hope so. I have so many physical games.

Digital Foundry has had some chats around dedicated decompression hardware like the PS5 and Series consoles. Might help them push the storage a bit further.

Only the MSX and NES Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 are on cart, all three Metal Gear Solid games need to be downloaded

    • +6

Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3 need to be downloaded. As does the extras. Given the size of the download 50GB plus, you'll need space on the microSD card.

The plus side is - all downloads are tied with the physical cartridge and are not a one-time use code.

      • +4

Until the eShop discontinues support of the switch, as we all know Nintendo doesn't do anyone a Solid.

  • +7

This is the lowest price I’ve seen this yet.

Good games and wonderfully crafted experiences, but on switch they are a downgrade from the originals in terms of fps and some effects.

Opt for the ps5/ps4 or Xbox series if you can. (or play them on the ps1/ ps2 as originally intended.)

Also - avoid the switch version if you prefer all your games to be on the actual cartridge. The meat and potatoes of the purchase is downloaded - approx 50gb in total and requires basically extra memory storage. (beats the purpose of the cartridge release.)

  • wonder how you do the 2nd controller thing for the mind mantis dude in MGS1. do you have to pair another controller just for that bit?

  • +3

Cancelled my order. It sucks that all of the Solid games aren't on cart, on the positive side they aren't codes but rather linked to the cart. Shame on Konami for completely cheaping out on cart size.

  • What a thrill

    • With darkness and silence through the night

  • +18

Came here to warn people about the physical release not having anything on the cartridge but I can see somebody already has. Terrible practice that shouldn't be supported.

    • Not ideal, but at least still better than actual game contents tied to one-use codes.

    • Cancelled my order after reading this… how do I remove my positive vote?

  • +1

The Australian Versions it's still $80+

Crazy…. and thanks to Amazon for delivering products From different regions.

  • +1

    A Hind D???

    • Psycho Mantis… you're that ninja!

  • 🎼 SNAKKEEEEEE EAATTEERRRR 🎵🎶

not sure if it’s implied here, or a head is in the gutter once again 🥲😅

  • I've never played any of the MGS games, but have always wanted to. Is this a decent way to experience them? My only gaming options are Switch and PC.

    • +1

Pc would be better from the two.

(Psssst. Alternative option - play the original releases emulated on Pc)

  • +2

Very tempted but don't want to tie the three main games to a burner US account (still can't believe not even the first MGS is on the cart at least).

    • +1

It won't tie to your Australian account? This is important information

      • It has a code in the box for the other games, being a US copy they should only activate on a US account? I could be wrong though.

EDIT: Looks like you can just change the region on your switch account and claim it, then change it back: https://www.reddit.com/r/Switch/s/ROwhPjqsKx

    • +1

I believe that the code is only for getting the soundtrack. The games you don't need to activate will appear on the home screen, and you just have to download the update.

  • +1

Got this on PS5. Love it.

  • I only had Metal Gear Solid 2 and finished that multiple times to get new items. Gameplay from this remaster looks great https://bit.ly/3YMvUoS

  • Get this on switch or just play them on my old PlayStations?

    • +2

maybe try the HD collection on PS3/XBOX360

  • Kept you waiting, huh?

  • wondered why it was such a good deal, but then the comments make this game RRP at $35

  • +1

Any news on a patch to support the 60 FPS on the games that run at 30 or is this just gonna be like this forever ?
