Can confirm, enjoyable game, works well even on lesser performing devices

  • Will we ever get a sequel?

    • No. :(

    • +1

I hope they name it Sleepy Dogs

      • +3

Sleeping Dogs 2 - Well Rested Canines

  • "Hey sexy man, you need new clothes? Want me to help you with that?"

That game had quite a few famous actors doing voices in it like Lucy Liu as Vivian, Will Yun Lee as Wei Shen, Emma Stone as Amanda and Tom Wilkinson as Inspector Pendrew.

Even though it was released a decade ago, it stands up pretty well. Also you can get lots of mods to jazz it up a bit with everything from new graphics to new fight moves.

Cheers didn't know that there was modding support on this game.

Really enjoyed it when I played it a long time ago

And Edison Chen as Jackie (for those who don't know, he was a big HK popstar, probably best known for one of the biggest scandals in HK)

      • Porno man

      • +1

And James Hong as Uncle Po and Byron Mann as Raymond. Really good cast.

    An OzBargain favourite!

This is such a good game and I cannot recommend it enough. I own it in at least three places and have finished it on all of them. It's criminal we never got a sequel.

Damn now I wanna play it again.

  • Price should be $4.44

    • That's like a bad omen in Chinese, Basically means "three deaths".

      • +1

        Exactly. $8.88 tai gwai

  • I'm an absolute sucker for action adventure style games with RPG elements eg Deus Ex, but also LoTR Shadows of Mordor, Batman Arkham Asylum. It sounds like this game would tick boxes, is that right? Can you pick and level up skills, gain experience points, that sort of thing?

    • There's a basic skill tree system, yes, to unlock new moves, attacks, abilities, etc.

you have to find the jade statue within the city and bring it back to the Sifu, and he will teach you a new move for each jade statue you bring back.

Is this similar to Yakuza series?

    • +5

Some have considered Sleeping Dogs to be a crossover between Yakuza (fighting mechanics) and GTA (open-world experience), and I think I agree based on the numerous times I have replayed this game. The overall plot line is short, gunfights are scarce, so you'll mostly rely on melee combat.

    • +3

I've never played any of the Yakuza games but I'll try to explain what Sleeping Dogs is like.

The best way to describe this is a lot like a GTA title with much more emphasis on melee combat. In fact, I don't believe gun combat is introduced until about halfway through the game.

This game is stupidly under-appreciated and is certainly worth the $4.

    • The problem I found with the Yakuza series is that you would have to listen to these massive cut scenes where people would ramble on forever, where I just wanted to kick ass. Combat wise they are similar but Sleeping Dogs is more GTA. I have to admit though Yakuza is really pretty graphics wise walking around the streets in Japan. Same Same but different.

      • Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check this game out.

  • Good game but terrible driving mechanics.

    • +3

      Just like HK

    • I don't think the driving mechanics are that bad, although I'd normally ride a bike in the game.

  • Also compatible with macOS.

  • One of my fav games. Sad number 2 never happened. Always play this every year or so. Worth any price imo.
