Has anyone here tried both the v8 and v10? Keen to know if the v10 is worth the extra $

      https://www.rtings.com/vacuum/tools/compare/dyson-cyclone-v1…
V10 has longer battery time if that matters most to you.

    • I had the v10 (older model). If they haven't redesigned the trigger in the newer v10, I'd say avoid it.

Internet search dyson v10/v11 trigger issue and you'll find a lot of people having that problem.

Bought mine in Feb 2019, the trigger broke in Aug 2021. Roughly 6 months out of warranty.

But to their credit, Dyson offered to fix it for me for free.

I ended up selling it in Dec 2023 for $550 in anticipation that the trigger might break again and would have to pay for it.

      • Someone paid $550 for your 5 year old second hand stick vac!? Wow. Just wow.

        • +1

Indeed I was actually expecting the facebook buyer to negotiate.

But to be fair, it also includes the Dok which I got for free when I got it back in 2019. (thanks ozb!)

          • @juns: On FB too? Mind = blown. People are fruitloops lol.

I have a refurb V10 and my parents have the V8. I feel like the suction power is much higher on my model. I personally love this vacuum and use it every day (Small apartment but 2 fluffy af cats) Only downside for me was when I cooked the motor after 2 years of use by using it on wet floor but they fixed it for free.

      • +2

The suction on low/ default are pretty much identical according to data-based reviews.
However, in the max setting the V10 does produce a little more suction.
Something to keep in mind is the current V8 is very different to the one that launched in 2016. If they're using an earlier year version that would explain it.

    • +1

I have a late model v8 and a good friend has an early model V10. The v10 seems to have better suction, bigger bin - though it feels more cumbersome, like the weight distribution is awkward.

If your using on hard floors, wood/tiles, the V8 is more than enough.

We're going to return our V8 Origin in the Big W deal, having just purchased the V10 Absolute in this deal.

The V8 performs well (we're coming from a Vax Pro Pet and also have the $99 Kmart 2400W corded vaccum). Good pickup, spinning head doesn't stall nearly as much over shaggy rugs, less long hair gets caught in the spinning head, very quiet operation (the others we use ANC earbuds/ headphones), and the best thing about all Dysons that most people don't understand/ appreciate is the cyclones separating out the dust before it hits the filters. So, you don't need to clean them out nearly as often (the other two have me outside with 4 different filters and a leaf blower generating enormous clouds of dust to de-clog them a couple times per year, despite banging out the first 2 filters frequently). The competition often has fake cyclones molded into the exterior just to mimic the appearance of Dyson's.

But we want a larger dust bin capacity as we have a large house and a dog (V10 is ~50% larger depending on how you measure the true capacity/ which review you read [Dyson uses an inflated number, so beware]). The Origin and vanilla packages also lack all of the additional accessories that get progressively bundled into the Extra, Absolute, and Absolute + packages. In particular we wanted the mini screw hair tool for upholstery, which isn't cheap if purchased separately. The Absolute packages also throw in the expensive long-hair spinning head attachment, which excels at picking up larger debris on hard floors, which will come in handy with kids. The V8's battery hasn't been an issue for us despite the large house, but having more will help with doing deeper cleans more often, such as going over upholstery.

Some people don't even realise they need to clean the filters. At work we had a V6 that was used for a while then started choking, making people say Dysons don't last very long.

I had a look, the brush head was fully tangled with hair, the flap at the intake was jammed with dirt, and the filter was really black on the inside.

Turns out people were just emptying the bin and not doing anything else, like driving a car and not servicing it at all then when it breaks down in 3 years, they blame the car. :)

I heard you should stay away from this Dyson product

    • +3

I have the original revision of the V8 and am still
      totally happy with it.

    • Got the V6 in 2017 then upgraded to the V8 in 2020. Gave the V6 to the son when he moved out a few years ago and still works today. The only damage on either is due to dropping them. Battery life has not been a problem (I don't expect to do more than 3 or 4 rooms at a time and rarely use the Max suction option). Only issue I have that may lead me to changing from Dyson for the next purchase is the inlet from the "stick" to the dustbin clogs up with golden retriever hair (we have 3) so need to constantly empty and clear blockage before the bin is actually full.

    • +1

Yes, I have this and it is hopeless. Weak as piss, battery runs for 10 mins tops. Massively overpriced. if you must have a cordless vac, get a cheaper one as this is not worth the premium.

  • -3

I'd probably steer clear of Dyson vacuums, they're usually good at first and then they barely suck up anything and last about 5 seconds on charge

    • +2

The fact you can get cheap adapters for all brands of cordless batteries (Makita, Ozito etc) make that a non-problem.

      • Any recommendations?

      • Battery isn't the only issue though, it constantly gets clogged on nothing and sometimes leaves your carpet dirties than you started

    • +2

Jesus why is everyone on here so toxic, I'm just giving my personal experinece with a dyson???

      • +3

That is exactly what happened to our Dyson vacuum.

Great that you can get adapters but that still does not change the fact that the original battery is not great.

      • How are people being toxic?

Also the fact that many other people have no problem with their V8 could mean it's user error (usage, expectations, not cleaning filters etc) rather than a problem with the vac itself.

      • There's some Dyson fanboys on this heree. I guess even in 2024 on a bargain website, weird brand loyalty isn't dead.

    • Agree. At this point the stupid thing can't pick up spilled rice bubbles. The head just spins them around then deposits back on the floor, or launches them backwards at my shins.

This is on carpet, after emptying, cleaning out the head and checking all filters.

Also we got the "animal origin" one and it has never been able to handle dog hair at all. You can't put even put the upholstery attachment and the vaccum in the wall holder at the same time, what a joke.

  • What's the difference between this V8 and V8 origin?

    • I believe it's the attachments.. You get more fixings with the V8 compared to the origin… The price difference would reflect that

  • +1

both my dyson (stick and ball )broke around 5 years….. was slow slow then dead. expected better..
got the miele last sale. great vacuum for half price dyson… see how long lasts.
feels solid. great suction and not as loud dyson.imo.

    • Did you clean the filters regularly?

  • +2

How much of an upgrade would be the either of these be from my Xiaomi Dreame V9 which is basically cactus.

    • I'd really like to know this too as I'm in the same boat

    • So is my Xiaomi Viomi A9.. 😪 Thinking to finally grab something like this.

  • +1

We have had the V10 for about 5 years. Use it for daily clean ups and the small stuff, but use a Miele for the weekly big clean.

Does a decent job, but as others have mentioned the battery has slowly degraded and now run time is about 5 minutes on low and 1 minute on high.

Am looking at doing the conversion to a drill battery with adapter, just need to find the time to do the research. This is cheaper than getting an original battery.

    • The one I bought for my V8 was about $24 on AliExpress. Well worth it for my use.

  • How you mofos getting $380?

I'm getting $479*0.85=$407.15? What am I doing wrong?

    • They've bumped up the original price in the last 10 mins or so.

    • Price was $448 for the last 1-2 weeks, including earlier this morning, but they have raised the price just now to $479.

    • +1

Dyson is the last company I'd think would price jack when there's an eBay promo code discount…but they just did :-(

      • Their prices often change though. Quite sure it was $479 a few weeks ago when I checked, then $448 a few days ago, and $400ish a month or so ago.

        • +1

That's very true, unfortunately this time coincides with the day Afterpay promo is on…

  • We also purchased this stand with One Pass: https://www.catch.com.au/product/artiss-freestanding-dyson-v…
Cheaper than at Bunnings/ Myer/ Amazon and eBay.
