Pixel tablet and charging dock is just not something I need right now. I guess you could always try and sell them off

  • +3

pretty good deal if you are getting the base model pixel 9

  • Probably be hard to get even $600 for the tablet on eBay or marketplace. But still worth it if getting the basic models

    • Pixel tablet with dock is generally $599 when on sale (pretty frequent), ao you won't get 600 for it

      • Damn, I was just going on current price I didn't realise it went on sale for that price. I will stick to the other discounts, seems a safer option.

        • If you aren't keeping the tablet, yes better off to get an upfront discount.

  • Why doesn't this combine with the Pixel Pro Fold 😞

  • +5

Wow, they are approaching Apple pricing. That was the one major appeal of the pixel line, is how cheap they were…

    • That's because pixel pulled itself out of the mid range to flagship.

      • +4

100%, but if you are looking at phones as a luxury item, that have features, the Pixel is obviously still quite far behind Samsung's offerings, and the reason people would get a pixel over a samsung is because it gets longer updates and it was cheaper. Now it's not cheaper, and hardware is often not as good, and lacks software features, and updates are only slightly faster sometimes.

        • Would you say replacing an Oppo Fibd X5 Pro with a 9 Pro XL or 9 Pro is considered or going to feel like a downgrade?

          • +1

@beOson: Usability would be a massive upgrade, as would performance and camera ability, but you may find the pixel is missing customisation features IF you enjoy customising your phone.

Also keep in mind Pixels never do well with battery life, so would probably be the one large downgrade to your oppo.

            • @onlinepred: Usability is one of the key upgrades that drives me to think about upgrading, tbh.

I don't think I customise the phone that much these days, but I do love the fact that on my Oppo I can have an icon on the shortcut bar (the bar just at the bottom of the phone, with 4 icons in one row) to quickly 1-click to turn the screen off, as well as double tap to turn on and off the screen. Is this something available with the Pixel?

              • +1

@beOson: Not natively, you would have to use a third party launcher as far as I'm aware.

                • @onlinepred: Oh wow, was hoping that I could get to keep this considering it such a really handy and simple feature. Also, may I ask if the Tensor G4 going to be much inferior than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1? I didn't realise that the G4 has lower scores than a CPU on a flagship phone from 2 years ago.

                  • +1

@beOson: The Pixel 9 early benchmarks appear lower than 3 year old iPhones. Take this with a grain of salt though, as unless you are gaming, you may not notice.

                    • @onlinepred: Good to know, thx heaps!

                    • @onlinepred: Google is pushing on device AI, benchmarks are not necessarily AI usecase specific.
Google is already ahead in terms of that push and can roll out features much faster.
Build quality has improved but so has the price. I would prefer a Sammy instead

                      • -2

@urahara: If AI is your thing I guess. Nearly any device can get Chat GPT and a set amount of smarts on them, like Apple getting their AI integration - which offers some okay usability upgrades but overall I don't think AI is a selling point yet. Most of Googles cool AI stuff is done on servers, rather than the phone.

    • Now their cameras are awesome. Probably make a lot more money competing with iPhones

      • Very true. I've heard a lot of die-hard iPhone users considering the switch from Apple and Google is always the first option they seem to be considering

        • +1

This is because the Pixels are the simplest version of android with the least features, so it makes the transition slightly easier.

      • +1

As far as I'm aware, their video still is highly average, and camera software processing hasn't really changed drastically, still provides heavily processed and vivid HDR photos that don't resemble what you see with your eyes - which is the very thing people hated with Samsungs making bright photos

        • I've heard they've greatly improved video this year, probably more likely on the pro models, but will wait for reviews to confirm.

          • @Trishool: Yea could be true, but most years it's been rumored they improved video, and they do, but still the worst of the flagships.

            • @onlinepred: I know, its disappointing, given the price point of these devices and the thousands of employees Google has. Its been 9 iterations, you'd think they'd be ahead of the pack by now on video quality.

              • +1

@Trishool: Yep, but when they were cheap, we didn't mind. Given we know we are making them more money giving them more use data, they really should be charging us far less. It should be that they are just using the phone to get us onto android, and use google services.

        • Which pixel do you have?

          • @belongsinforums: I've had Pixel XL, 2XL, 4, 5a, 7 Pro. Still have the 7 pro and use it as testing/backup phone. Admittedly I don't use the Pixel 7 Pro that much anymore, so I am a bit out of touch.

            • @onlinepred: Nexus era was crap. Telephoto lens and wide lens on the 8 pro easily beats my $2000 iphone. Tensor chip is crap though

  • +1

I'll wait when they are less than $600, Google phone's hardware are crap, they charge the premium because they own the system.

    • +4

They're just cashing in on die-hard fans

The price on Pixels drop real quick when the quality issues surface

  • +2

Hard to find a reason to spend $1500 for pixel9 not iPhone15 or S24, the cpu is rebranded Exynos, even Samsung gave up using it.

    • +3

it's hard to find a reason for replacing the same flagship phone in a model 2 years old for almost double the price. from my experience with google devices, these price will drop heavily in a couple of months.

    • If Samsung gave up using it, why are the S24 and S24+ flagships, along with their A series phones still using it? Exynos isn't bad, but the old Exynos chip Google decided to base Tensor on is bad.

  • FYI, you can take advantage of this at any JB store if anyone prefers their customer service. They have full access to Telstra’s ordering systems.
