Newly Installed Laminate Flooring Covered in Dents and Scratches?

We had flood damage earlier in the year which led to some floorboards warping. We went through insurance and in order to repair it, the entire floor needed to be removed and new floor put in.

Have just come home to the new floors and the majority of them have these dents and nicks which weren't in the sample we were shown. I can't imagine they are part of the 'realistic wood look' but I'm no expert on flooring. It just seems strange that almost every floorboard has some sort of defect, and from what I can tell it's in the same position. It seems like an error in manufacturing but wouldn't the person laying the floors have picked up on this? Hoping someone with a bit more expertise can tell me if I'm overreacting and it's expected of laminate floors or if this is a shoddy job?

I have photos of the sample that were were shown when choosing the floor and it looks very different to what we have. I've contacted the company that was in charge of the renovations who are going to look into it.

Who chose the installer? You or the insurance company?

    • Insurance company chose them.

Then follow up with the insurance company and let them organise the replacement.

    they look like sh*t

They need to replace them for sure

The small indentations that flow with the wood grain are expected, but the big divots are crap. Who was there when the installer finished and check that the floor installation was good?
Send photo's to the insurance company if they organized and paid for the installer and ask them to organise for it to be fixed. If you organised it then you need to get onto the installer ASAP and hope you have not paid 100% of their invoice.

OP, talk to the insurance company yet?

What you are showing is damage, IMO.

Work probably got sub contracted then sub contracted again then outsourced to Blind Freddie from the looks of it. Not good enough, raise complaint with insurance.

    • Blind Freddie got his nephew's best friend's cousin to do the job…

Yeah that doesn’t look right. Get onto them asap before they try to blame the damage on you.

That's damage. Something has been dropped, sat or imprinted on them. For us, it was crp ladders with poor rubber feet left indents in the floors.

Sounds like either a crap installation or they got seconds flooring. As others said get on to the insurer with photos. Ask for a different installer for the replacement.
