Ceiling Fan Light Cover Blocking Too Much Light—Need Solutions!

The globe on our ceiling fan isn’t letting enough light through, and I’ve been searching for a clear or transparent light cover but haven’t had any luck finding one.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? It doesn’t make sense to me that the cover blocks so much light—it seems to cut the brightness in half!

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Talking of clear and transparent, good luck at getting an answer when the details might be clear to you but not to others.

There are hundreds of fan lights whats the model etc . Does it have the thingymegigs that some have or the whatsamacallits that others have encountered.

Just a little of the details to help.

Is the ceiling fan a standard globe or LED? Or does it have a replacable globe ? otherwise, you are out of luck.

    • It’s a standard globe but as AngoraFish commented the frosted covers are intentionally designed to make the lighting more diffuse.
      I’ve added some photos.

Please provide a photo to show the issue.

    • I've added some photos. My question was specifically about the frosted cover, which is also diffusing the light. When I remove it, the lighting improves significantly. I haven’t been able to find a clear or less frosted cover, so I was curious if anyone else has had luck finding brighter options.

There are only three solutions here, get a brighter light bulb, leave the cover off, or replace the entire unit.

The frosted covers are intentionally designed to make the lighting more diffuse, to reduce the harshness of looking directly into a point light source.

Alternatively, you may need to organise supplementary lighting, such as installing some down lights or buying a floor lamp or two.

      brighter lamp

Prob best to leave the cover off as well - some of those high power Philips lamps get pretty toasty

      • They can, although LEDs generate significantly less heat than old-style filament globes so you can certainly push things beyond the 60W globes the fitting is likely rated for.

    • I've been looking for a brighter light bulb but haven’t had any luck finding one. Removing the cover solves the issue, but it doesn’t look great visually—though it seems to be the simplest solution :)

That whole fan lamp is useless, just get rid of it altogether to save you the headache and put downlight or whatever suits you. Those cfl bulbs in there do lose brightness overtime so you technically can improve things a little bit by replacing them with 1500lm led bulbs but you will have issue fitting them because brighter bulbs are bigger too.

Ditch the CFLs and get some LEDs. You.might find cool white improves the brightness. Warm white is less harsh but also less bright.

Removing the cover will help but look ugly.

Also don't forget that CFLs take a little time to warm up, especially when older. They increase in brightness over a few minutes which sucks if youre only in the room for a minute but if you leave em on, you may notice them brighter next time you enter.
