Are these any better than the Samsonite sets at Costco?

    • Wondering as well. The two piece set is 270ish and weights were quite low. Pretty similar for the in-store American tourister as well.

      • The one in Costco now is NOT expandable…so it is not an apple to an apple comparison

I was there two days ago and it certainly IS expandable.

so the bundle is 50c more expensive than buying the 3 individually?

    • You beat me to it lol

    • I thought that too but OP listed the wrong price for the 55cm, it’s actually $178.5.
So you save exactly $0 buying the bundle, better than being 50 cents dearer I guess.

    The 75cm is 4.7 kg…..nearly 25% of the 20kg luggage allowance

I'm pretty sure thats a standard weight for that size of luggage. Nothing over the top or anything.

you get 2x32kg for business class ;)

      • First class probably even higher. Mostly people fly economy

    • Agreed. Dont buy hardshell if you are borderline on the allowance. Buy softshell/cloth ones which are much lighter.

    • My 75cm hardshell Samsonite case is 2.8kg so these are definitely not the lightest of the range.

  • Honestly focus more on maximising weight rather than space. You will reach the weight limit pretty fast with taller ones. Just get a medium one

In case you’re wondering what the weight is for the carry-on size, the info on the iconic site states it’s 2.9kg.

  • I know I am comparing apple to orange but for a fraction of price, this duffle bag will do the same work as check-in luggages - much stronger / lighter / more versatile / on wheels only $20 in Kmart.
    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/large-duffle-bag-with-wheel…?

    • I just had a nightmare experience travelling to and from europe where KLM lost my bag for 3 weeks (my entire holiday) and returned it to me at Melbourne when I got home.
It was a brand new American Tourister suitcase, a wheel was broken off and it looked like it had been really beaten up.
It really depends how much you value your possessions as a cheaper bag may have copped even more punishment than mine.

I found that the expensive hard-case is normally worse than the cheap soft-case, in terms of both durability and versatility. Another thing is those expensive cases with 360 degree wheels much easier to get cracked or simply come off. I only put clothing / inexpensive items in my check-in luggages, so this $20 kmart case will do the job and I think many people would be like me, so here is the cheap reliable alternative.

  • If you want some very good hard side luggage at a reasonable price I can vouch for the Epic travel gear which is on a great special at the moment.
Have bought from these guys before and received great service and speedy delivery.
The Epic GTO 5 is my pick. I have the spin in carry on and the GTO5 as checked.
$350 for the trio is a steal for the quality.
