do they have public transport from Uluru airport to Uluru rock ? never been to NT before

    • +2

Nope, need to book a bus or hire a car. It’s not cheap.

Make sure you lock in accomodation before booking flights as there can often be less accommodation then flights.

      • +6

thanks mate, looks like accommodation is pretty expensive as well, would be cheaper to visit overseas with recent deals :/

        • Might not be an prion for you but if you have basic camping gear you can stay at the campgrounds.

I went there a few years ago chaperoning a school tour. And the campsite was pretty good. Had decent bathrooms and a pool.

We could also access the rest of the the rest of the grounds and was a short walk to a restaurant /bar.

I still have great memories of it, and I would highly suggest investing in a guided tour around the rock.

@elthaco: Bathrooms 🚽 then straight to the pool :)

Agree this is the best way to experience the rocks 🪨 by camping 🏕️

          • +2

@elthaco: Bit hard to pack Camping gear on a Jetstar flight

            • @RockyRaccoon: As I said might not be an option for everyone.

But isn’t Jetstar checked luggage limit 32kg? You can fit a lot in that. You not going to be glamping but there is enough for comfort there.

    • Ayers Rock Airport is right next to the resort, which is where you would be stay. Uluru is only like 20kms away from there. There is no public transport. There is a free shuttle bus around the resort and paid ones from the resort to the rock. There are other places in the area worth exploring, but you'd need a car or to book a tour.

I'll save you the hassle. It's cool for 10 minutes. Fly overseas so you can be disappointed when you get back how bloody expensive everything is.

        • +2

My friends say the same who have visited, its all "hype".

Save the money and go overseas

      You’ll never-never know if you never-never go!

      • +9

I know I will never go back.

Gotta love the advertising slogan C U in the NT

  • +9

One-way trip to the NT sounds like a threat.

  • +3

Car hire is ridiculous and has a limit of 100km per day. Plus u need to pay park pass on top of the highly expensive tour to certain sites in the nparks.

  • Any cheap accomodation?

If you can't climb the rock, what's the point of going somewhere and just looking at a big rock.

And the next one where what made it the popular tourist destination it used to be is not going to be allowed any longer is the horizontal falls in the Kimberley.

    • Looks like there's plenty to do to me.

If you want to look like an idiot, you can even go on a Segway tour!

Will it be a torture to spend Christmas over there?
No idea how hot it could be.

Save the money and look at this instead: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/ULURU.jp…

  • Been there by car 3 times at the same time:
1 First time, long line and late opening and huge entry fee.
2 Only time: It rained and rained, Camp site was $75 and totally flooded, only 1 out of 4 toilets were open but plenty of used paper found outside.
    3. Last time, back then the climb would have theoretically open but some guy that looked like he got his measles patches wanted 1 grand to climb because some elder 100's of k's north had died.
Also looked at a nearby gorge. Looked prettier to me so dared an R44 to have another look at the hole in the ground from above.
