Can't Find The Right Pillow

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for some advice on finding the right pillow.

I’m a side sleeper with broad shoulders, and I’ve been having a tough time finding a pillow that works for me. I need something high and firm to support my head and neck properly, but every pillow I’ve tried seems to go flat once I put weight on it.

I’ve experimented with both latex and memory foam pillows, but neither has been quite right. My current workaround is to use a hard pillow on the bottom and a softer one on top to get the height I need, but then this is slightly too high! I end up waking up with shoulder and neck pains. (Yes I have a new mattress)

Does anyone have recommendations for a pillow that might work better for my needs? I’m looking for something that maintains its firmness and height even with pressure. Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! I think I've tried almost every pillow from Harris Scarfe

Thanks in advance!

IKEA Klubbsporre is the most comfortable one I have used. It's memory foam but a firmer type that maintains shape and always bounces back. No issues side sleeping on it. The gel layer is a godsend in summer too.

There's a matching pillowcase tailormade for them too.

  • Maybe try an adjustable contour pillow, like these:

You could even email them, tell them your situation & see what they recommend.

    • I'm a side sleeper and like to think I have broad shoulders (normal wetsuits dont fit me across the shoulders so thats my marker…) and I use one of these pillows (or something very similar). You can use the 'fat' side for more height

Try a Buckwheat pillow - they mould to the shape of your head and neck. Since first trying one, I've never gone back and even take mine on holiday with me.

  • I had to use 3 for a while there but back to 2 now. I just kept experimenting until I found the right combo. Good luck. :)

  • I am also in need of a pillow and a side sleeper. I have got some military neck syndrome. should I get a visco pillow something like these?

  • I found the most comfortable pillow for me was the Koala pillow. It has both a softer and a firmer side, and offers a 120 day trial so if it doesn't work out for you, you can send it back. Also currently on sale as part of their Afterpay day sale.
I loved mine so much I bought some as gifts for family that Christmas.

    • $155 for a single pullow, r u 4real

  • Hey. Interestingly going through the experience myself. After lots of research I decided a firm high profile Talalay latex pillow should do it.

Anyway, so I purchased the Dunlopillo firm high profile luxurious latex one. Turns out my shoulders aren't as broad as initially thought and now I have a $100+ pillow that is too high for me. Might work for you though if you actually do have said shoulders (that I don't).

I'm considering either the medium feel high profile version of this pillow (which feels like it sinks enough to line things up better), the Ecosa pillow or the Koala one someone mentioned above.
