FWIW the ring doorbells with the built in battery are a bit of a hassle. speaking as an owner with this exact doorbell, i would suggest waiting for one with a removeable battery

about once every 6-8 weeks you need to recharge the doorbell unit, which takes 5-7hrs. you need to use a security screwdriver to remove two screws and take it off the wall bracket. the charging doesnt happen any faster if you use a higher wattage USB charger, it is always super slow. at least with the removeable battery you can buy a spare no-name battery and swap them over quickly.

the chime is nice but you can get a similar outcome with an alexa speaker.

Don’t forget you have to pay an annual sub.

Yep, need to look at the total cost over say 5 to 7 years.

Eufy is a good alternative with zero subscription fee

        • Better go with Eufy, Reolink or Aqara G4

    • Totally agree, the charging is a PITA, still a really good piece of kit though

    • I'll add too that these doorbells are basically useless if you don't have the subscription of $5pm. They won't record anything and since it's all cloud based you can't just have it stored locally for free. But sure it will work as a live feed and doorbell I guess.

If you're fine with the sub I will say it works well and the app is good, but I'm going to be changing over to a different brand asap because I hate being forced to subscribe to get basic device functionality like recordings

  • It's a good price, I have the battery one from a year or 2 back. Didn't realise this version is internal built-in battery, not removable battery.

Yes, the annual sub is annoying, but I replaced my cheapo internal wifi cameras with the Ring ones and paid up the $150 per year.
I would say the Ring indoor software settings are garbage. It appears you cannot schedule active/inactive times of day for the motion detection (basic stuff 10 year old Mangocams could do this). However, the quality and speed is much better when using it "Live".
