      Boden'd?

      Liar liar pants on fire

      • I would never, I just had to maximise the savings ($1998 off if you get 6 :D )

  • +2

I am still using my PX7 from a few years ago for about $290, from David Jones in an OzBargain deal. Not sure this PX8 is worth that much difference in price.

    • px7 s2e comes with the same DSP as px8 if you want to upgrade but save

but tbh I wish I just stayed with px7 first revision, I reckon it's got the best sound signature that they later on just moved to px8

      • The PX7 sound signature didn't work for me at all, I ended up selling it quickly. They just sounded synthetic to me and I would personally rank them behind most of their competitors at the time in terms of sound quality. Sony XM4's were similarly bad, but for a different reason. I currently own the XM5's and they sound pretty decent, and the EQ is very effective - I really like the Bright preset.

I also currently own Momentum 3, B&O H95, B&O H8i (highly underrated on-ears) and Focal Bathys - so have a basis for comparison.

        • interesting, I will try xm5, was quite disappointed with xm4. very bland and distant sound

I have a habit of selling old when I get new, so I can't run 1:1 comparisons lol

px7 was bright and exciting, with the right amount of bass to make the music I was listening to at the time super enjoyable

but then my interests shifted, and I exchanged it for xm4 (disappointment) and then px7 s2e which was good but not exciting enough, in the same tracks. sound could be tuned, but not a major difference.

          • +1

            @shabaka: I wish I had your habit! :)

The XM5 still sounds somewhat compressed, but only when I compare it directly to others, and is not my first choice for music listening, but I'm not hating it the same way I hated the XM4. If it was my only pair, I could probably live with it.

Was interesting to see David Beckham to be used as marketing it in the photos, but he wears Master and Dynamics headphones in public haha

    • -1

It’s like LeBron a for Beats but he uses AirPods ahhaa

    • He is an advertising slut

  • +4

Anyone wanna have a go at it like how Apple charges $800 for their AirPod max?

  • +3

If this is Apple Product posted with $800ish, people will jump all over to torture OP. I am just waiting for someone with gifted eardrums will tell "there's a difference".

    • -2

I don't get it either. I am fine with cheap headphones and recently "splurged" for some Pixel Buds that I am happy with.

I haven't tried something like this, so I may be ignorant of the full spectrum of sound that they produce. I suppose an audiophile would appreciate these, but surely you'd need equally sophisticated music to really show a difference.

      • +7

This isn’t true at all, anyone will be able to hear the difference between these and the pixel buds. Fair enough if it isn’t worth it to you (I am not buying these either) and there is definitely diminishing returns for every additional dollar you spend on headphones, but we are still in “clear quality difference” territory here.

Disclosure: I haven’t heard the px8s but liked the sound signature of the original B&W PX very much.

        • Quick google "this headphone vs APM", aside from the $300 difference, they only mentioned the mild clarity advantage of the PX8, but for extra $300? Not to mention PX8 has poor ANC.

          • +1

@Fredfloresjr: We were comparing to the pixel buds, not the AirPods Max (which are $100 more expensive than these are).

Also, clarity is exactly what people who care about sound quality tend to look for, ahead of noise cancelling or any other features anyway, so “mild clarity advantage” sounds like a win to me.

            • +1

              @get-innocuous: Base 911 vs 911 turbo S, A$100k difference for a mere 1.5 seconds 0-100 run.

              • +1

                @[Deactivated]: Base 911 is 280k and Turbo S is 537k.

I would argue that 1.5s is absolutely massive not in time but in the seat of your pants experience - but for non car people, yeah that's a pretty fair and accurate analogy.

Another would be that a Model 3 performance comes pretty close to Turbo S performance over a 0-100 run for 440k less, and 90% of people would find equally thrilling. For the 10% of people who would buy, or aspire to own, the 911 over the Model 3, the difference in experience is still massive and absolutely appreciatable.

                • @soaringphoenix: M… Over half a mio already. Used to be $400k in the good old days. Best thing about the 911 is that they come with rear seats for kids.

                • +1

                  @soaringphoenix: Well explained!

            • @get-innocuous: Got it, yeah i'l pass with pixel buds lol.

        • I am sure there is a significant difference, I wasn't trying to suggest that they were comparable - just probably wasted on most people (which I admit is self evident given that "most people" likely aren't the target market).

      • If you stream low quality stream like Spotify, honestly maybe it's harder to tell, but can still tell. But from shit quality to decent it's easy to tell. Decent to good harder.

I personally dont really want to spend so much for portable headphones as there are too many external noises to distract anyway. Home use different story though

        • Is the difference consistent with the cost?

I do generally listen via low quality platforms, which is fine, as I don't really know of any music that really demands higher quality.

Do you buy/download your stuff locally?

          • @thanatos350: Spotify vs Tidal max quality, it's very different. I

    • +2

By gifted, you mean decent hearing?

    • +5

      Me.

    • +7

Not all heroes wear Anko headphones.

    • +1

people who like to buy nice things still prefer to pay less for them. It really shouldnt take much to work that one out..

    • When it comes to Audio $800 is just dipping your toe in the baby pool…As long as your happy with your $30 buds that's all that matters. Quality comes at a price that many are willing to go big on.

  • +7

RTings rates them as very basic… I've seen $100 headphones score better sound quality than that.
You're paying for the materials it's made out of, the fancy box, and the marketing campaign…

In fact, when looking at their recommended bluetooth headphones, the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 gets an honourable mention - not the PX8s…

    • If you use basic codec like AAC then it is no point spending that much.
An AptX adaptive dongle is paired you will appreciate the difference a lot.

      • My H9i's using AAC still sound fantastic, far better than my XM4 with cable. Not sure why it matters unless you are sitting in a silent studio analysing sounds?

        • Yes, AAC is good enough from an Apple product.
Have you tried aptX, aptX adaptive and LDAC?
You see the difference in most environments.
Otherwise, you should not spend a pair of headsets more than $200.

        • on android using Aptx HD or LDAC is a considerable step up, noticeable easily.

    • +4

Just an FYI, when I was shopping for headphones, I went and tested all the headphones in my price range with the music and content I will use them for. These plus other premium headphones have very specific abilities, and your content will sound quite different compared to other headphones. These sounded incredible for the music I listen to, far more pleasing than the bose qc and sony xm series that rated so highly. So at the end of the day, ratings are nothing when it comes to what sound profiles you like.

      • Oh yeah, this is also true.

I have a friend that has a pair of those heavy metal headphones (Heavys) and he swears by them, but when I listened to some of my electronic stuff through them, I found them really muddy and soft.

        • Would take RTings with a grain of salt.

Bose, Sony are okay, just okay.

Try vocal/orchestra out of the box and the clarity of sound from B&W is just mind blowing.

Different user/audience group. Personally I wouldn't bother with the XM5. Gotten rid of mine right after I have bought them.

      • You can buy a PX7 S2E for $450.
The headphones are good alternative to this PX8.

        • Yes. Don't think there are better alternatives at $400 mark. PX8 is hitting to the Bathys territory.

B&W hasn't made a bad PX8, they have just made a really good PX7 for the price range.

  • +3

    when.did these get so expensive?

went the px6 and 7s like 400 to 600? when did they become e 800 headphones??

    • $1150 RRP..

  • XM3/4's or QC45's all day

    • -1

If the only thing you care about is ANC, 100%.

      • And saving a lot of money

        • There are $5 tws earbuds on aliexpress if you want to save even more money!!

        • And comfort

  • -3

Wheres the bargain at??? Wouldn't call 2 weeks rent a bargain for headphones but each to their own I guess :)

    • +1

A bargain if you own a beach mansion and don’t need to pay rent..

    • +3

More pressingly, where can I still rent for $400pw in Aus? Or will this require living >2hr commute from a CBD for work?

  • +1

I have the px7 s2e. Great sound. Advantage is you can plug them into usb c on your PC, will connect for sound and charge at the same time.

I have QC45s too. They're lighter so more comfortable and better for being mobile.

    I haven't tried the PX8 but love the PX7 se2.

    • +1

had px7 s2e but I think I was asking for too much there. yes sound quality was siperb, but ANC wasn't

so I sold them, got cheap quiet comforts from recent JB Hi-Fi deal for best in class ANC and decent sound on the go, and for critical listening at home I now sport wired hd599.

      end of story

  • +7

F ME if you don’t want to pay $XXX for something then DON’T!

Why does every post have to be inundated with c***s telling us that they wouldn’t pay that much for whatever it is.

WE DON’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. MOVE ON.

  • I suggest Focal Bathys is a better "premium" anc for $1000?
They used to be discounted, not sure why addictedtoaudio doesn't have any stock right now.

  • +1

Been using these for two weeks and pretty happy so far….coming from QC35 1st gen….here's an interesting review between these and Focal Bathys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98d37Gd02Us&t=1s
